I didn't want to answer the call, but I did.
"Hello?" I answered.
"Hey Zoey. What're you up to?" Marcus asked.
"Lynette went home a little ago so I'm just chilling. You?" I asked.
"Not much. Hey why did you look so mad when that girl talked to me?" He asked.
Are you serious? Was it seriously that obvious I was jealous? I really needed to work on that.
"I wasn't mad." I said.
"Zoey." He said.
"What?" I asked.
"You can tell me the truth." He said.
"I am." I said.
"Bull." He said.
"Marcus, I wasn't mad. You can go for anyone you want. I'm not stopping you." I said.
Damnit Zoey!!!
"Eh, not really looking right now. I'm focused on someone right now." Marcus said.
Damnit Marcus. So he liked someone. That didn't feel good.
"Okay." I said.
"I'll see you tomorrow Zoey." He said.
"Yeah." I said.
"I love you." He said.
"I love you too." I said.
I hung up, sitting on my bed. Shit, I really liked Marcus. I didn't even know what to do about it. He liked someone else.
The next day at school I saw Marcus talking to Mary. Did he like Mary again? I didn't want to know. I hid behind the hallway to hear the conversation. Nosy me.
~Marcus's POV~
"Marcus, we need to talk." Mary said.
"About?" I asked.
"I miss you." She said.
"I don't." I said.
"Why?" She asked.
"I like someone else." I said.
"Who?" She asked.
Zoey. I liked Zoey. A lot. And Mary needed to know because I really fucking liked that girl.
"Zoey." I said.
"I knew it. You're too caught up in her mind. You deserve better." Mary said.
"No. I like her. A lot. So please, leave me alone." I said, walking away.
~Zoey's POV~
Marcus... liked me?
I didn't know what to think. What was I gonna say when I saw him again? I like you back? No! I hated this.
I saw Lynette going to the bathroom and rushed over to the bathroom.
"You're in a hurry." Lynette said.
"Marcus just told Mary he likes me. Holy shit I'm in so much shit." I said, breathing heavily.
"Zoey. Calm. Mary's not gonna do shit on Marcus's watch. Do you see how protective he is over you?" She asked.
"I know but I've never had someone like me. Especially Marcus. My best friend!" I said.
"I know." She said.
"Lynette what the hell do I do?" I asked.
"You tell him how you feel." She said.
"You're crazy if you think I can do that." I said.
"You can. You're just over-working yourself. I'll see you next hour. You don't have to talk to him right away, just play it out." She said, giving me a hug.
I needed to figure this out.
I went into my first hour. I saw Marcus. Butterflies. Sweaty palms. Damnit Zoey. I hate you for this.
I sat down, grabbing my notebook and pen. Everyone was talking to each other.
"Hey Zoey." Marcus said.
"Huh? Oh. Hi." I said.
Fuck.
"You alright?" He asked.
"Never better. You?" I asked.
"Yeah, I'm good." He said.
"That's great." I said.
"It is." He said.
I nodded, trying to take my notes.
After my classes we made it to lunch, which meant we were almost done with the day.
"Can I come over today?" I asked Marcus.
"Sure." Marcus said.
Mary walked up to us. God Mary please don't.
"Funny to see you too together." Mary said.
"Mary shut it. Zoey let's go." Marcus said, taking my hand and walking with me away from Mary.
Did he not want me knowing he liked me? Damn.
After lunch I went to Marcus's house. I was gonna tell him.
I wished myself luck.
