I loved Marcus with my whole heart. He made me feel safe. He made me feel happy. He was just quick to believe anyone and everyone.

I walked into school with my drug test results. Everything was negative.

"There's your proof dipshit." I said, handing Marcus the paper.

"Jesus." Marcus said.

"You need to stop believing her so quickly." I said.

"But why does it say positive on her phone?" He asked.

I grabbed my phone, calling Chad.

"Hi Zoey how can I help you?" Chad asked.

"Hey. Chanel said you drug tested me and it came out positive is that true?" I asked.

"No. She went into my office and made a fake test and emailed it to her phone." He said.

"Figured so." I said, hanging up.

"I'm so sorry Zoey." Marcus said.

"I love you Marcus but you need to start communicating with me more. Don't just believe her and leave. You know I'm not a liar. I'm not using anymore." I said.

"Okay." He said.

Lynette walked over to me.

"I'm sorry Zoey. I heard the conversation between you and Chad and I'm so sorry, the edit looked so real." Lynette said.

"It's fine but y'all need to seriously talk to me about it first instead of leaving me." I said.

Lynette gave me a hug as I walked with Marcus to our first hour.

I sat down, Chanel started her bullshit of course.

"You're probably high on drugs right now aren't you?" Chanel asked.

"No." I said.

"You don't need to lie." She said.

"Will you please shut the fuck up?" I asked.

"I'm just telling the truth." She said.

"No, you're a psycho bullshit liar aiming at people just because you want to. Fuck off Chanel and grow the fuck up you're in high school for Christ's sake." I said.

"Whatever. You're just on bad behavior right now because of the drugs." She said.

I rolled my eyes as Marcus looked at me.

He mouthed 'I'm sorry. I love you.'

I mouthed back 'I love you.'

After our boring classes we got to lunch.

"I'm so tired." I said.

"You should come over after school." Marcus said.

"That sounds nice." I said.

I sat down next to Marcus as he placed his hand on my thigh, bringing me closer to him.

"Hey party people." Chanel said, sitting down.

"Go away." I said.

"You're just mad. It's okay." She said.

I put my head down.

"No Zoey. Come on, eat." Marcus said.

I looked at him and he kissed me.

"I strongly dislike you." I said.

"Go be free." He said, smiling as he took his hand off my thigh.

I gave him a dirty look as he kissed me again, putting his hand back on my thigh.

"Could you be anymore disgusting?" Chanel asked.

"You're the one who chose to sit here." I said, eating my food.

Marcus laughed, going on his phone.

"Marcus, what are you doing after school today?" Chanel asked.

"Hanging out with Zoey." Marcus said, placing his phone down.

"You could be hanging out with me instead." She said.

"I'd rather not." He said.

I checked my phone and a private number was calling me.

"Hello?" I answered.

"Hello. An inmate from Greenhouse State Prison is attempting to contact you. To accept, say accept or press 1." The call said.

I pressed 1 and went down to the hallway.

"Zoey?" I heard my mom say.

"Hi mom." I said, taking a deep breath.

"Hi baby. How are you doing?" She asked.

"I'm fine." I said.

"Look I get why you're mad at me. I would be too if I was you. I'm so sorry. I'm going to make this right I promise." She said.

"It's way too late for that." I said.

Marcus came out to the hallway, standing in front of me.

"I know, but I promise you once I'm done with my sentence I'm gonna be the mother you have always  wanted me to be." She said.

"I'm in Tasha's custody now. Along with Delaney's. You had your chance and you messed it up. Goodbye mom." I said, hanging up.

"What was that about?" Marcus asked.

"Nothing." I said.

"Was it your mom?" He asked.

"Yeah." I said.

"It's okay. It'll get easier babe I promise." He said.

I gave Marcus a hug along with a kiss. I really hoped it would get easier.
