~Dylan's POV~

I got home, finally. I placed my keys on the counter and took my jacket off.

"Where have you been all night?" My mom asked.

"The hospital." I said.

"What?" Marcus asked.

"Alright. Listen. Zoey overdosed again. She's fine, but she's in the mental hospital for awhile." I said.

"And you didn't bother to let me know? Or bring me to see her?" He asked.

"She told me she didn't want you to see her all drugged up." I said.

"Can she at least call?" He asked.

"She might not. She said she wants to focus on getting better first. Just give her time Marcus. She needs time to herself especially right now after what she just got through. She almost died." I said.

Just then, my phone rang.

"Hello?" I answered.

"Are you alone?" Zoey asked.

"No." I said.

"Go outside or something." She said.

"Okay." I said.

I went outside as Marcus went upstairs.

"How is he?" She asked.

"He just got mad at me for not bringing him to the hospital." I said.

"I figured he was gonna react that way. Typical Marcus." She said.

"How are you holding up?" I asked.

"Tasha's trying to make me as comfortable as possible. She let me have a TV." She said.

"That's good." I said.

"How is Delaney?" She asked.

"She's been working her ass off. She's been really stressed from everything so she picked up some extra shifts." I said.

"I miss her." She said.

"You should give her a call soon." I said.

"I will soon. I just want her to have her space for a bit. She's probably pissed at me." She said.

"She's not pissed at you. Your mom might be but your mom doesn't know shit." I said.

"Dylan, can I tell you something?" She asked.

"Yeah what's up?" I asked.

"I don't think I can do a relationship right now. Especially after what just happened." She said.

"Do you need me to let him know? Or do you want to call him?" I asked.

"I'll call him after this." She said.

"Just know what you're doing for you isn't selfish. And if he gets mad at you I'll beat his ass." I said.

"It's okay. Thank you." She said.

"Of course. I love you Zoey, be safe okay?" I asked.

"Okay. I love you too." She said.

~Zoey's POV~

"One more call." I said.

"Okay." Tasha said.

I dialed in Marcus's number.

"Hello?" Marcus answered.

"Hi Marcus." I said.

"Zoey?" Marcus asked.

"Yeah." I said.

"How are you holding up? Are you safe?" He asked.

"I'm fine. I'm safe, but we need to talk okay?" I said.

"What's up?" He asked.

"I think that after what's happened I just need you as my best friend instead of my boyfriend, please." I said.

"Of course. I understand Zoey. Don't ever think that you doing better for yourself is bad. I'm here for you." He said.

"Okay. I just feel like a relationship is just not the right timing right now." I said.

"I understand. It's okay. I'm always here for you." He said.

"Thank you." I said.

"Of course." He said.

"I have to go now. I love you Marcus. Stay safe." I said.

"I love you too." He said.

I hung up.

"Do you feel better that you got that out of your system?" Tasha asked.

"I feel like it's time to get myself better now." I said.

"Good. And I'm here to help you with that." She said.

I smiled. Genuinely. I hadn't done that since summer.
