The day before the first day of school

"Are you sure you're good enough to go to school?" Delaney asked.

"Yeah no I'm all good." I said.

"I'm trying to make sure mom at least stays so she can take us. My car just had to break last minute." She said.

"It's all good." I said, smiling.

Delaney left my room. I locked the door silently. I started pacing around my room. My thoughts immediately went to drugs. Not because I wanted to feel something, because I wanted to forget. I wanted to forget that I had to see Marcus tomorrow. I wanted to forget everything.

I opened my desk drawer, grabbing the pill bottle. I took 2 pills out of the bottle. I covered the bottle back up in my desk with a whole bunch of junk.

I put the pills in my mouth, drinking water with it.

I took a deep breath, sitting on my bed.

I went downstairs, looking around. I was pretty dizzy.

"Zoey? Zoey? Are you listening?" Delaney asked.

"Huh? What's up?" I asked.

"Do you have your stuff ready for tomorrow?" She asked.

"Oh, yeah I do." I said.

"Okay." She said.

I nodded, going back upstairs.

I wanted it to be the last time I ever used again, but there was no promises.

Present

I laid down in Marcus's bed, falling asleep.

"Zoey." Marcus said.

"Hm?" I muttered.

"I love you." He said.

I smiled. Maybe blushed.

"I love you too." I said.

I felt confused that Marcus was still even with me after all that happened. The mental hospital, the encounter with my dad, everything. Was it because he'd been there with me for so long?

After sleeping for a few hours I woke up.

"Hey sleepy head." Marcus said, kissing my forehead as I went in his arms.

"I'm still tired." I said.

"I know love. It's okay." He said.

"What game are you playing?" I asked.

"Call of Duty." He said.

"I never understand that game." I said.

"All you do is shoot people." He said.

"Weird." I said.

"Are you hungry? Do you want anything to eat?" He asked.

"No, I'm okay." I said.

"Zoey I haven't seen you eat in 2 days." He said.

"I'm okay." I said.

"Promise?" He asked.

"Yeah." I said.

I just didn't want to do anything. I was tired, I was sad, I just wanted to sleep.
