After school Lynette came over. She always came over. We basically lived at each others houses.
"Did you see Mary's haircut? It looks so bad. She looks like she wants to speak to someone's manager." Lynette said.
"Yeah, no kidding." I said.
"But hey, I have a question." She said.
"What's up?" I asked.
"Are you still hurt about the whole Marcus situation that happened before sophomore year?" She asked.
"Not as much as I was. It's hard to get over a best friend that was there for you for so long, but stuff happens. I just have to deal with it." I said.
"I'm so confused on how he doesn't realize what a real bitch Mary is." She said.
"Hopefully one day he does, but I don't know if I'll forgive him because he chose his girlfriend that he's dated for almost a year over his best friend that he's known since we were in diapers." I said.
"She must've really got to his head then." She said.
"I'm not sure." I said.
"Dinners almost ready." Delaney said, popping her head in my doorway.
"Thanks." I said.
I honestly didn't know if I was still hurt about Marcus or not. It just came in waves.
After dinner Lynette had to go home. I sat in my bed and watched videos on my phone until... Marcus texted me.
Marcus: Are you seriously still mad over what happened?
Me: Marcus, you chose your girlfriend over your best friend. That you've known since you were a baby. Of course I am mad, just not as much as I was. I just don't want to talk to you.
Marcus: I want to fix our friendship Zoo.
He called me Zoo because he didn't know how to pronounce Zoey until he was 5. I got sad at that nickname now.
Me: Look Marcus I would love nothing more than to be best friends with you again, but I'm not dealing with Mary. Your choice. Not an ultimatum.
Marcus: Sounds like one. Mary's been my girlfriend for almost a year I can't leave her.
Me: Ok.
I set my phone down, putting my face in my pillow. I loved Marcus, I just didn't need his Mary drama in my life.
