Riana's POV
The secret defense classes are going well Neville had successfully disarmed Hermione. Colin Creevey had mastered the Impediment Jinx after three meetings' hard effort. Parvati Patil had produced such a good Reductor Curse that she had reduced the table carrying all the Sneakoscopes to dust.
Hermione and I found a way to tell the members when meetings are. We made fake galleons. The numerials on the coins are usually the serial number referring to the goblin who cast the coin. On the fake ones though, the numbers will change to reflect the time and date of the next meeting. The coins will grow hot when the date changes, so if we're carrying them in a pocket we will be able to feel them. We used a protean charm to make them work. So whenever Harry changed the date & time on his coin, the others will change to mimic his. Everyone was impressed we could do a NEWT level charm. Honestly, childs play for me.
Though we were finding it almost impossible to fix a regular night of the week for the DA meetings, as they had to accommodate three separate: team's Quidditch practices. Which were often rearranged due to the bad weather conditions.
Speaking of quidditch, it's time for the first match of the season. Gryffindor Vs Slytherin like usual. As the match drew nearer, our DA meetings were put on hold because Angelina insisted on almost daily practices for Gryffindor. The Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs were taking a lively interest in the outcome, for they, of course, would be playing both teams over the coming year. And the Heads of House of the competing teams, though they attempted to disguise it under a decent pretense of sportsmanship, were determined to see their own side victorious. Professor McGonagall abstained from giving us homework in the week leading up to the match. While Snape was no less obviously partisan; he had booked the Quidditch pitch for Slytherin practice so often that the Gryffindors had difficulty getting on it to play. He was also turning a deaf ear to the many reports of Slytherin attempts to hex Gryffindor players in the corridors.
I know Harry is feeling optimistic about their chances. Which is understandable, they had never lost a match to Slytherin since he was seeker. The only thing really that seems to be worrying Harry was how much Ron was allowing the tactics of the Slytherin team to upset him before they even got on to the pitch.
Harry, of course, had endured their snide comments for over four years. So whispers of, 'Hey, Potty, I heard Warrington's sworn to knock you off your broom on Saturday', far from chilling his blood, made him laugh. 'Warrington's aim's so pathetic I'd be more worried if he was aiming for the person next to me,' he retorted. Which made Ron, Hermione and I laugh and wiped the smirk off Pansy Parkinson's face.
But Ron had never endured a relentless campaign of insults, jeers and intimidation. When Slytherins, some of them seventh-years and considerably larger than he was, muttered as they passed in the corridors, 'Got your bed booked in the hospital wing, Weasley?' he didn't laugh, but turned a delicate shade of green. When Draco Malfoy imitated Ron dropping the Quaffle, Ron's ears glowed red and his hands shook so badly that he was likely to drop whatever he was holding at the time, too.
Anyway the morning of the match dawned bright and cold. I grab a couple of blood pops. I'll be getting blood bags today. I contemplated going before the match, but I promised Hermione I'd be there to support Ron. Besides as long as Draco doesn't bleed, I should be fine. As his blood is the one I crave the most.
I got ready for the day and headed to the great hall sucking on a blood pop. I finished it and had very little to eat. Afterwards I follow Hermione to the quidditch pitch. We took our usual seats and Ginny joins us with Neville. I start to enjoy my second blood pop as the teams are introduced. "That cherry?" Neville asks.
"Nope" I state.
"Got another?" Ginny asks.
"No, sorry" I tell her. The match begins. We focus on it as I continue to enjoy my blood pop. Slytherin was in position heading for the Gryffindor goal posts as a song fills the air from the slytherin stands.
"Weasley cannot save a thing,
He cannot block a single ring,
That's why Slytherins all sing:
Weasley is our King.
Weasley was born in a bin
He always lets the Quaffle in
Weasley will make sure we win
Weasley is our King" they sing. I scowl, who came up with such a stupid song? It's obvious why, they wanted to throw Ron off of his game. Which works as Slytherin scores the first ten points of the match. Making the Slytherins sing louder. I even notice Draco singing it and scowl. I thought he'd have matured, but he obviously hasn't.
Luckily Harry caught the snitch before Draco. We won 160 to 40. Hermione and I headed down to the quidditch pitch to congratulate the team. When we got to the ground though I saw Harry and George launch themselves at Draco. While the gryffindor chasers held Fred back. I freeze as Draco's blood fills my senses.
"Oh no, go" Hermione tells me as I clutch my jaw breaking the blood pop. I know my eyes must be darker as I focus on Draco. "Riana, go now!" she shouts. I turn on my heel and run from the pitch letting out a loud whistle. Something black lands in front of me and I bow. The black hippogriff bows back and approaches me letting me mount him.
"Fly" I tell him and he takes off. He took me to the whooping willow. Where I thanked him and found my blood bags. I have one and relax leaning against the tunnel wall breathing heavily. Once I had calmed down and was in control again. I return to Gryffindor tower. Where I learn that Harry, Fred and George got a life time ban on quidditch. And had their brooms confiscated by Umbridge. Ron was going to quit the team, but was talked out of it by the others. I decide to call it an early night.
