Riana's POV
It is time for Gryffindors' next Quidditch match, and Cormac is the stand-in keeper. Apparently, he has been driving Harry nuts at practice. He acts like he is the bloody captain and that he could play every Quidditch role himself. Like he knows better than anyone how to play Quidditch. When he has never once been on the team. He seems to think that if Gryffindor won today, he would be made the permanent keeper for the team. Which won't happen. He is delusional.
Lavender and Ron are still not officially broken up. Ron has been avoiding talking to her, the coward. Whenever she visited, he pretended to sleep. So, she had been demanding updates from Harry about how Ron is healing. Harry was gonna talk to Ron about it before today's match.
Ginny and Dean are still dating. She finally told me about her Christmas break. And I can't believe deatheaters attacked the Burrow. That it nearly got burnt down. That I wasn't there to help my friends. But she doesn't blame me. She understands my hands are tied on the matter. She then told me about how Bill is gonna marry Fleur and how I will be invited. As I get along well with both Bill and Fleur. I can't wait for the invite, I have never been to a wedding before.
Anyway, I am sitting with Hermione, Sean, Raquelle, and their two friends. Who are very excited about today's match. As it is Hufflepuff vs. Gryffindor. Grim and Alys are supporting their house. While Sean and Raquelle are supporting ours. They have a bet on the match. Losers buys the other two snacks on the train ride home.
"Do you think Gryffindor will win?" Sean asks me.
"Probably, Harry has put together a great team. But they are having to use someone else as keeper as Ron is still in hospital, " I state.
"Is the new keeper any good?" Grim asks me.
"I guess we'll find out," I tell him, shrugging. He shares a look with Alys. I guess they think their team stands a chance winning without Ron being Gryffindors' keeper. I wonder who is commentating today? I look over at the commentator stand. To see Luna there, oh, this is gonna be good.
Both teams come out onto the pitch. Harry shook hands with the hufflepuff captain. Before both teams take to the sky. The match begins when the balls are released and Madame Hooch blows her whistle.
"And that’s Smith of Hufflepuff with the Quaffle," Luna says in her usual eamy tone of voice. "He did the commentary last time, of course, and Ginny Weasley flew into him, I think probably on purpose, it looked like it. Smith was quite rude about Gryffindor, I expect he regrets that now he’s playing them. Oh, look, he’s lost the Quaffle, Ginny took it from him, I do like her, she’s very nice, " she states.
"Why did McGonagall give Luna the mike?" Hermione asks me.
"Don’t know," I tell her, shrugging. "But I think she is regretting it," I add as I look at the commentator stand. Beside Luna, Professor McGonagall was looking slightly uncomfortable, as though she was indeed having second thoughts about this appointment.
"You should apply," Raquelle tells Sean.
"Maybe I will," he tells her.
"But now that big Hufflepuff player’s got the Quaffle from her, I can’t remember his name. It’s something like Bibble — no, Buggins, " Luna says.
"It’s Cadwallader," McGonagall corrects her. As the crowd laughs. Moments later, Cadwallader scored. McLaggen had been shouting criticism at Ginny for allowing the Quaffle out of her possession, with the result that he had not noticed the large red ball soaring past his right ear.
"McLaggen, will you pay attention to what you’re supposed to be doing and leave everyone else alone!" Harry snaps at Cormac.
"You’re not setting a great example!" Cormac shouts back.
"And Harry Potter’s now having an argument with his Keeper," Luna announces. As both Hufflepuffs and Slytherins below in the crowd cheered and jeered. Grim and Alys look pleased with what is happening.
"Match isn't over yet," Sean reminds them.
"Yeah, don't get cocky," Raquelle adds. Harry swears and focuses on his search for the golden snitch. Ginny and Demelza scored a goal apiece, giving the red-and-gold-clad supporters below something to cheer about. Then Cadwallader scored again, making things level, but Luna did not seem to have noticed; she appeared singularly uninterested in such mundane things as the score, and kept attempting to draw the crowd’s attention to such things as interestingly shaped clouds.
So Professor McGonagall took over commentating. "Seventy-forty to Hufflepuff," she states. Hufflepuff cheers.
"Is it already?" Luna asks. "Oh, look! The Gryffindor Keeper’s got hold of one of the Beater’s bats, " she states. I look over to see she is right. What the hell is Cormac thinking?
"Will you give him back his bat and get back to the goalposts!" Harry snaps. As he pelted toward McLaggen just as McLaggen took a ferocious swipe at the Bludger and mishit it. Getting Harry in the head, knocking him out. Gryffindor lost by three hundred and twenty to sixty. The whole team was furious with McLaggen, and it is safe to say he will never play Quidditch for Gryffindor ever again.
While Alys and Grim are happy that Hufflepuff won. They are disappointed that it wasn't because Hufflepuff was a better team. It was because Gryffindor lost their seeker and had a terrible keeper. So they decided that the other two didn't have to buy them sweets. As it wasn't a fair match. Even though Sean and Raquelle were happy to stick to the deal they had made.
Anyway, it turns out Harry has a cracked skull. Madame Pomfrey healed him, though. But she is still keeping him in overnight for observation. Which left the team to deal with McLaggen. Though I am sure Harry will have his say when he is out of the hospital wing. Hermione and I visited him while he was unconscious. Before returning to the common room to do our homework.
