Air Algérie Flight 5017, registered as Echo Charlie- Lima Tango Victor (EC-LTV), was a scheduled international passenger flight from Ouagadougou Airport (IATA: OUA, ICAO: DFFD), Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso to Houari Boumediene Airport (IATA: ALG, ICAO: DAAG), Algiers, Algeria, which crashed near Gossi, Mali, on the 24th of July 2014, the McDonnell Douglas MD-83 twin jet aircraft which was serving the flight was carrying 110 passengers and 6 crew (116 in total) on board the plane, the plane was operated by Swiftair for Air Algérie, the plane disappeared from radar screens about fifty minutes after takeoff from Ouagadougou, there were no survivors from the crash.
The flight departed from Ouagadougou Airport at 1:15pm local time (UTC) on the 24th of July 2014, it was scheduled to land at Houari Boumediene Airport, Algiers, at 5:10pm local time (4:10pm UTC), the flight reached it's cruising altitude of 31,000 feet, 24 minutes after departure, the plane began to gradually lose speed and the plane did eventually drop to 370 kilometres per hour from 520 kilometres per hour, the plane maintained 31,000 feet, after an unspecific time had passed, the plane began to descend, the speed dropped to about 300 kilometres per hour, after the plane entered a left hand turn and it began to lose altitude more rapidly which caused the plane to spiral down, the FDR stopped at 1:47pm local time, the plane was at an altitude of 1,600 feet and it was at a speed of 700 kilometres per hour, the plane crashed into the ground at 270 meters (890 feet) above sea level about a second after the FDR stopped recording.
