TAROM Flight 371, registered as Yankee Romeo- Lima Charlie Charlie (YR-LCC), was a scheduled international passenger flight, that was using an Airbus A310 from Otopeni International Airport (IATA: OTP, ICAO: LROP), Bucharest, Romania to Brussels Airport (IATA: BRU, ICAO: EBBR). Brussels, Belgium. The flight was operated by TAROM, the flag carrier of Romania, on the 31st of March 1995, the Airbus A310-324 aircraft entered a nose dive that went downwards after takeoff and the plane crashed near Balotesti in Romania, all 60 people aboard the plane were killed in the crash, the crash is the deadliest plane crash in Romanian's history and it's also the deadliest plane crash in TAROM's operational history.
The First Officer (51 year old male by the name of Stoi) asked the Captain (48 year old male by the name of Liviu Batanoiu) to retract the flaps and slats, the Captain retraced the flaps but failed to retract the slats, the F/O (First Officer) asked the Captain what's wrong, the Captain told his F/O he felt sick, then he fell silent, the Captain lost consciousness, to make things worse, the plane's left engine thrust lever moved by itself back to idle thrust, which resulted in asymmetric thrust as the right engine remained at the climb power, the speed of the plane decreased and the plane was banking sharply to the left at an angle of 45.09 degrees, the plane began to dive towards the ground, the plane was now in a nose dive with a pitch angle of -61.5 degrees, the plane violently crashed into the ground with tremendous force at 09:08:34am local time near Balotesti with a speed of 600 kilometres per hour, just 89 seconds after the plane took off and 27 seconds after the Captain became incapacitated, the plane was destroyed completely on impact, killing everyone on board instantly, the plane left a 96 meter (20 foot) deep crater on the field the plane crashed onto.
The summary of the crash was Auto throttle failure, pilot incapacitation and pilot error.
