On the 6th of August 1961, a Malév Hungarian Airlines Douglas C-47 Skytrain passenger aircraft, registered as Hotel Alpha- Tango Sierra Alpha (HA-TSA), crashed during a sightseeing flight, which took off from Budapest Ferihegy International Airport (IATA: BUD, ICAO: LHBP), the crash happened in a residential area in the 14th district of Budapest, Hungary, the crash killed all 27 people on board the plane plus three other people who were on the ground (30 in total), the crash was the first fatal accident in Malév's history and it's the biggest air disaster to have occur in Hungary to date.
The plane left the airport at 15:44pm local time and it flew over Zugló, the flight would have taken 12 minutes to do before the plane had to return to the airport, the aircraft performed a wavy line flight, then it began a left turn at an approximate altitude of 1,476 feet, after which, the plane performed a left-right wing roll at 1,312 feet, with a climb and descent, the nose of the plane lifted due to the elevators being held for too long, the aircraft rolled to the right and then with severe loss of airspeed, the aircraft turned onto it's back and crashed into the apartment building at 224 Lumumba Street in a corkscrew action (the street it crashed on is now named Róna street), the fuselage broke into two pieces, the front part remained on the roof of the apartment building and the tail section fell down, which crushed three young people to death (they were aged 20, 17 & 13) who were fixing their bicycles in the yard of the apartment building.
