On the 7th of June 2017, a Shaanxi-8 aircraft, registered as 5820, of the Myanmar Air Force crashed on a flight from Myeik Airport (IATA: MGZ, ICAO: VYME), Myeik, Myanmar to Yangon International Airport (IATA: RGN, ICAO: VYYY), Yangon, Myanmar, the crash killed all 122 people on board, debris from the aircraft was found in the Andaman Sea, 118 nautical miles (218 kilometres) off Daweiby, Myanmar Navy ships found the debris, the crash is the deadliest aviation accident in Myanmar's history.

The aircraft had departed from Myeik for Yangon at 13:06pm local time (06:36am UTC), at 13:35pm local time, communication was lost with the aircraft when it was 20 nautical miles (37 kilometres) west of Dawei (13°48'N 98°02'E), the aircraft was flying at 18,000 feet at the time communication was lost, a search and rescue operation was launched in the Andaman Sea, no mayday call had been received from the aircraft.

Nine navy ships and three military aircraft and helicopters were sent to assist in the search, on the 7th of June, debris for the aircraft was found 218 kilometres off Dawei by a Navy ship, the next day 29 bodies were found, the wreckage was scattered over a wide area, it was later reported there was no survivors, on the 15th of June, a fishing boat found the tail section off Myinkhwar Aww Bay, the CVR and the FDR were recovered on the 18th of June.

The summary of the crash was a Stall due to atmospheric icing, wind updraft.
