Malaysian Airline System Flight 653, registered as 9 Mike- Mike Bravo Delta (9M-MBD), was a scheduled domestic passenger flight from Penang Airport (IATA: PEN, ICAO: WMKP), Penang, Malaysia to Subang Airport (IATA: SZB, ICAO: WMSA), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the flight was operated by Malaysian Airline System (MAS), on the evening of the 4th of December 1977, the Boeing 737-200 aircraft serving this route crashed at Tanjung Kupang, Johor, Malaysia, while it was being diverted by hijackers to Singapore International Airport (IATA: QPC, ICAO: WSAP), Singapore, the crash was the first fatal air crash for Malaysia Airlines, with all 93 passengers and 7 crew (100 in total) were killed in the crash, the crash is also the deadliest aviation disaster to occur on Malaysian soil.
The crew were making lading preparations for Kuala Lumpur at 19:54pm local time, while the plane was at an altitude of 4,000 feet over Bantu Arang and descending towards Runway 33 at Subang Airport, when an "Unidentified hijacker" knocked on the cockpit doors, he was let in then he forced the pilots to cut off communications, a few minutes later the crew radioed; "We're now proceeding to Singapore, good night", in the last few minutes of the CVR, the crew told the hijackers that the plane would run out of fuel before they could get to Singapore, the hijackers fatally shot the crew, which left the plane "professionally uncontrolled", at 20:15pm local time all communication with the plane was lost, at 20:36pm local time, the residents of Kampong Ladang, Tanjung, Kupang in Johor reported hearing explosions and seeing burning wreckage in a swamp, the wreckage was identified as the aircraft; the plane had hit the ground at a near vertical angle at a very high speed, there were no survivors.
