Egyptair Flight 843, registered as Sierra Uniform- Golf Bravo India (SU-GBI), was a scheduled international passenger flight from Cairo International Airport (IATA: CAI, ICAO: HECA), Cairo, Egypt to Tunis-Carthage International Airport (IATA: TUN, ICAO: DTTA), Tunis, Tunisia, on the 7th of May 2002, the Boeing 737-5660 aircraft serving this route crashed into a hill near Tunis-Carthage International Airport, of the 6 crew and 56 passengers (62 in total), 3 crew and 11 passengers (14 people) were killed in the crash.
The plane was flying in instrument meteorological conditions (IMC) due to fog, rain and blowing sand on approach to Runway 11 of Tunis-Carthage International Airport, the aircraft crashed atop of a hill in the Nahli area in the north of Tunis, the aircraft came to a rest at an elevation of 750 feet (230 meters) above sea level and 4 miles (3.5 nautical miles, 6.4 kilometres) from the airport, 14 people out of the 62 were killed in the crash, the investigation found the minimum safe altitude warning device at Tunis- Carthage didn't cover the approach for Runway 11, the cause of the crash was Controlled Flight into Terrain.
