Lao Airlines Flight 301, registered as Romeo Delta Papa Lima- 34233 (RDPL-34233), was ascheduled domestic passenger flight from Wattay International Airport (IATA: VTE, ICAO: VLVT), Vientiane, Laos to Pakse International Airport (IATA: PKZ, ICAO: VLPS), Pakse, Laos, on the 16th of October 2013, the ATR 72-600 aircraft operating the flight crashed into the Mekong River near Pakse, the crash killed all 49 people on board the plane, the accident was the first involving an ATR 72-60o and the crash is the deadliest ever to occur on Laotian soil.

The flight departed from Vientiane at 14:45pm local time (07:45am UTC) and the plane crashed into the Mekong River at 15:55pm local time (08:55Am UTC) while the plane was approaching Pakse for the second time, less than 6 kilometres from the airport, the aircraft had already did a go around once due to poor weather and the plane was in the downwind leg for another approach, when the plane crashed into s river bank and was deflected into the nearby river, all 49 people on board were killed, marks on the ground indicated that the aircraft landed heavily on the ground before entering the Mekong River, the weather was reported to be poor at the time of the accident due to the remnants of Typhoon Nari affecting southern Laos.

The summary of the crash was Controlled Flight into Terrain due to Pilot error.
