You had just picked Christopher up from school when your phone rang.
"Hey, Buck," you say.
"Hey, Y/N. Can you come to the hospital?"
"What's wrong?"
"Eddie got hurt on a call."
"I just got Chris from school. Should I drop him with Carla?"
"Probably, just to be safe."
"Alright. I'll be there within the hour."
You hang up and call Carla, who is more than willing to watch Christopher while you go see Eddie.
"Thank you so much, Carla," you say as she walks into the house.
"Not a problem, hon. What should I tell Christopher if he asks when Eddie doesn't come home later at bedtime?"
"Just that he had to cover another shift and that I'll explain later when I get home. I hate lying to him," you tell her.
"Alright. Call me with updates."
You nod and head out to your car. When you walk into the hospital, you see Buck waiting for you.
"How is he," you ask quietly.
"He has a concussion and a broken leg," he tells you.
You breathe a shaky sigh as he pulls you into a hug. He rubs your back while you take deep breaths.
"Can I see him?"
"Yeah. C'mon."
He leads you to Eddie's room and you see your boyfriend waking up.
"Hey, babe," he says, groggily.
"Hi," you say, barely audible.
You sit on the bed and hug him.
"When Buck asked me to come, I thought the worst," you sob.
"I'm not leaving that easily. Besides, Chris needs his dad," he mumbles into your hair.
You hear a knock on the door and you wipe your tears.
"Eddie, the team's here," Buck says, popping his head in.
"This isn't how I wanted to meet them," you mutter into your boyfriend's chest.
"Me neither but it is what it is. Send them in, Buck."
He nods and everyone comes into the room. You can tell they're confused as to who you are.
"Uh, everyone, this is Y/N. My girlfriend," Eddie tells them.
You give a small wave and cling to Eddie.
"Baby, that's Hen, Chimney, and my captain, Bobby," he tells you.
"Wait, Buck knows," Chimney asks.
"Yeah, I found out when I brought Christopher home from school one day," he tells them.
"How long have you two been together," Hen questions.
"Two years in two days. We met shortly after Chris and I moved here," your boyfriend explains.
"Hell of a way to spend your anniversary," Bobby chuckles slightly.
"I know. Last year we were apart but at least this year we'll be together," you say.
"I had to work last year," Eddie clarifies as your phone rings.
"It's Carla. I told her to tell Chris that you were covering a shift," you tell your boyfriend.
"Chris probably saw the news. The fire is all over it," Hen explains.
You sigh and answer the phone.
"Y/N," Christopher yells when you answer.
"Hey, buddy. I guess you saw the news."
"I did. Is Dad alright?"
"I will be buddy," Eddie tells him, taking your phone.
"Will you be home soon?"
"Hopefully tomorrow after school."
And true to his word, Eddie Diaz was home when Y/N brought Christopher home from school the next day.
