"Station 126. Vehicle Accident. Traverston and Omega."
You were drifting in and out of consciousness when you heard the sirens. You had blood dripping down the side of your head, and your legs were pinned under the dash. Ten minutes later, you were removed from the car and saw him. Your boyfriend of five years in AFD gear. When he saw you, he ran over to the captain, begging to let him ride with you to the hospital. You saw him hop in and the next thing you knew, everything was black.
"What was up with Probie," Paul asked Marjan.
"I'm not sure," she shrugs.
"Alright, everyone listen up! Mateo knows the victim. We're gonna head to the hospital to be there for him," Owen yells.
Mateo was pacing in the waiting room when Tommy, Nancy, and TK returned with the stretcher.
"How is she," he asks.
"They're looking her over now," Tommy says as Nancy and TK pick up supplies.
"That was the first I've seen her in five years. I don't want it to be the last time," he says, quietly.
"Who is she," Nancy asks as the rest of the crew comes over.
"She's my girl."
"Since when did you have a girlfriend," Judd asks.
"Senior year of high school. I asked her to the homecoming dance and she said yes. Three weeks later, I asked her to be my girlfriend. After we graduated, I joined the academy and she left for school in Kentucky. I hadn't seen her before she left but we kept in touch."
The doctor walks out.
"Family for Y/N Y/L/N," she asks.
"That's me," Mateo says, raising his hand.
"How are you related?"
"I'm her boyfriend."
"She has a concussion, seven broken ribs, a shattered knee, and a broken leg, but other than that, she's fine. She should be out in two or three days."
"Oh, thank God. Can I see her?"
"Room 117," the doctor says, pointing down the hall.
"You see her first. Come get us when you're ready for us," Owen says.
He walks in and sees you waking up.
"Hi, baby," you rasp out.
"Hey, you had me really worried," he says, kissing your hand.
"Was that your crew?"
"Yeah, that was them. I had to tell 'em about us."
"I'm fine with that. You've told me so much about them."
"You wanna meet them," he asks and you nod your head.
Mateo walks out and motions for everyone to come back.
"That's Marjan, Nancy, Tommy, Paul, Judd, TK, and Captain Strand," he says, pointing everyone out.
"Teo's told me so much about each of you," you tell them.
"Wish we could say the same," Paul says.
"We wanted to see if we could make the distance work, me being in Kentucky and all."
"That's understandable," Owen tells you.
"I was on my way to surprise you. Your mom told me you got a job at a firehouse and I asked which one. She told me and I wanted to surprise you while you were working," you tell your boyfriend.
"All that matters is you're alive," he says, kissing your head.
