"So, now that I'm settled in, when are you coming to visit," Paul asks.
"I don't know. Work's been pretty crazy," you half-lie as you walk out of the airport.
"Well, the crew wants to put a face to a name."
"Just show them the picture from your academy graduation."
"I had to get a new phone and lost all my pictures."
You catch a cab and put your bags in the trunk.
"How many times have I told you to back up your cloud?"
"I know, I know. I miss you."
"I miss you, too. I gotta go. Talk later."
You end the call and shut the door.
"Where to?"
"Austin Firehouse 126, please."
Twenty minutes later, you pulled up in front of the station. You paid the driver and got your bags. You walked into the garage and the woman in the ambulance walked over to you.
"Can I help you," she asks.
"Yeah. I'm looking for Paul Strickland."
"He's out with the truck right now. You are more than welcome to wait in the common area."
"Thanks. I'm Y/N, Paul's best friend from Chicago," you introduce yourself.
"I'm Captain Tommy Vega on EMS 126."
"Paul's talked about his place a lot," you say, walking past the memorial wall.
"He's told us a lot about you. Would you like some coffee?"
"Please. The jet lag is gonna start hitting soon."
You sit on the couch and she pours you a cup.
"Truck's on the way back, Cap," a bright voice says.
"Who's that," another voice asks.
"I'm sure Paul would prefer to do the introductions, but seeing as he's not here. I'm Y/N."
"I'm TK Strand and this is Nancy Gillian," TK says, Nancy waving from the fridge.
You chat for a few minutes and soon enough, you hear the rig backing into the garage. You hear Paul talking as he gets down from the truck.
"No, I called her earlier. She said work's been crazy."
"Is that what I said," you laugh.
Paul's head whips around to make eye contact with you. You run over and jump in his arms.
"I thought you said you couldn't come," he asks.
"Well, I quit that job and started that business I told you about."
"The jewelry one?"
"Yeah. I just launched the website last week. Look," you say, pulling the site up on your phone.
"That's awesome! Anyways, meet Judd, Marjan, Mateo, and Captain Owen Strand. I'm assuming you already met the EMS crew," he says.
"Yeah, they were here when I arrived."
After shift, Paul takes you back to his apartment and you head to TK's apartment for game night with his boyfriend, Carlos, and the crew.
