"Actually there's another person that can explain it better to you." They were still sitting in the kitchen getting Gavin updated on everything he needed to know at the moment. "But you'll have to tell her things too. I hope that's okay with you." Obviously, it was Lola who was leading this conversation. Isaac wouldn't be so gentle about it.
"I understand. I will." Never in a hundred years, he would imagine himself in this position - with no family, friends, or even colleagues. At that moment the only thing Gavin had was the patience of two strangers that only saved him because of personal interest.
"It is my mother. She is the one who guided us to you in that camp." Isaac said with his fingers intertwined on the counter, paying attention to Gavin's visual features, not only to his phenotype but to his hand gestures, where his eyes looked at when he was talking. Isaac wanted to be sure if the boy in front of him was really the victim or was playing the role of one very well.
Gavin couldn't talk without looking at somebody's eyes, so he was doing good in Isaac's mental test. "We'll take you there soon, Gavin. But first I'll get you some proper clothes. It is freezing up there." Lola made Gavin smile, nodding positively.
''I presume I can't leave here, right?" It sounded a lot more like a rhetorical question, but Isaac answered it anyway.
"Yes. Since what happened in the camp, the Federal Opus is working together with the Governmental Guard to find out what caused that. And as I said before - Kyedoth issued a search warrant to you. At this moment you're the most searched person in Qorjal because he thinks you murdered everyone there."
"Don't get what is his obsession with me."
"You will as soon as you talk with Isaac's mother." Lola got her purse and car keys. "Gavin, make yourself at home and don't mind Isaac's ass face. Unfortunately, he didn't learn how to smile yet. Anyway, I won't take long. Bye." Lola prolonged the E sound in her last word.
So now there were Gavin, Isaac, and the silence followed them. Gavin seemed to not care about it and got up walking around to know the place. He ended up in the living room, specifically traveling his fingers on the books' on the white bookshelf. The books were varied; they had didactic books about technology, and history, and some that looked like religious books. Soon, he found some fantasy books that caught his gaze, mainly because of the beautiful and colorful art on the cover.
He felt Isaac's presence behind him, so he turned to face the boy with a serious feature on his face. Gavin could easily tell that Isaac was not comfortable with his presence there for an unknown reason. "How are you doing... Gavin?"
"I can still feel some aches here and there, but I can handle it."
"I did not want to doubt your words but I do not feel like I can. I am going to keep an eye open around you until we are sure that you are the right person." Isaac said coldly, making Gavin feel chills and let the fear inside him just grow up more. He really didn't understand why Isaac was being like this.
"Sorry to bother you, but I don't feel good either."
"Everything I am doing is to protect us because if you are not the right person, we are just wasting more time and it is getting over."
Gavin ignored what he just listened to, grabbed a book from the shelf, and passed through Isaac, leaving him alone in the living room and heading to his current room.
He let the room's door open the entire time and he didn't see Isaac passing there anytime. It was just Gavin and his book. He didn't hear literally anything, so he presumed Isaac had left the bunker. And speaking of it, the place had its wonderfulness. It was big enough to look like a bunker, but the inside didn't denounce it - it really looked like a real house, but with lots of metal and concrete. Everything was designed properly to make whoever lives in it feel comfortable and safe, like home.
