CHAPTER 67: THE PATHS BROUGHT US HERE

"Be clear, Gavin. What did he do?" Isaac questioned when his brain processed what he just heard. Everything was too good to be real.

Gavin said goodbye to whoever he was talking on the phone and took a deep breath after turning the device off. He needed to think quickly. "He did a very, very smart move and simply advanced the election day for tomorrow." He said with no emotion in his voice. It was like all the hope Gavin had in his heart was taken away from him by the hands of a giant. All at once.

"It cannot be." He opened his Lenses and searched over the internet about the latest news related to Kyedoth, and indeed, the man noticed he had nothing forbidding him from changing the date of the election, since it was his cabinet who decided it at first.

"I rarely feel like crying but right now it is like everything was taken away from me, Isaac." Gavin closed his eyes and his face reddened. "Without the meetings we would to next week, Kyedoth has a big advantage upon us. If we had a 50/50 chance, now he has a 70/50 chance of winning us, Isaac." He looked deep inside his eyes, and Isaac could see how desperate Gavin's gaze denounced to be.

"No, no, no." Isaac held Gavin's face with both hands. "You are not allowed to have this loser speech right now, Gavin. You. Are. Not. We will figure something out."

"We have 36 hours to come up with something and I think it won't be enough."

"If things go 100% wrong, by tomorrow night you will not be here anymore..." He felt destructed by the thought of losing his lover all of a sudden like that, but he was not giving him up without a proper fight with that tyrant. "I say you should play the same dirty game he is. The files my mother gave to you? Release several of them. Make new stories up if it is needed. It is not right to play fair with a cockroach type of person that Kyedoth is."

Gavin started to walk around the room while he was thinking. Isaac's proposal was good. He was telling Kita and Leonid to do it immediately, but he was also thinking about something a person said to him in the party – something that may help him convince people now that he wouldn't have the chance to formally meet the state leaders. "At the party a woman that worked at the State Union suggested to propose a debate with Kyedoth. What do you think about it?" He said everything very fast. The anxiety and nervousness was getting the best of him easily.

"It is a good idea. It will be your last chance to convince these people, but how will it be done? It will be televised? It will happen right before the voting period? These things need to be discussed and stated quickly before Kyedoth comes up with another tricky move to prejudice you, Gavin."

"I will gather up my team- bring them here... oh fuck." The cuss word sounded clearly the desperation of Gavin's mind. He felt poor spirited and low in faith at the moment. He was spacewalking in a suit with 1% of oxygen trying to get inside his station. The hatch that seemed far away could be opened, but will he be able to even touch it?

"Gavin, compose yourself." Isaac said stiffly, not wanting to see him in such weak position like that. He never saw Gavin defeated like he was in the moment.

"Isaac, you need to leave. You need to go to Weglinnic right now and lock yourself with your family. I want you to be safe inside the bunker during the debate and the voting period."

"I am not letting you by yourself during the debate. Do not even think about it."

"Isaac, be reasonable." Gavin had his dramatic side turned on, but the truth was still valuable in his words. "Your family already lost someone to Kyedoth. Do not let it be two. Your mother, your father, they do not deserve that pain again."

"What about me? I am losing the guy I love and I do not have the chance to fight for him." Isaac showed no emotion in his voice, but his tired red eyes signaled he wanted to tear down.
