CHAPTER 8: MALEFICENT PLAY

"How many know about this already?" Walking in circles on his office's porcelain floor, he kept his look down while concentrating on hearing what the scientist in front of him was saying. Such words appeared to be so full of lies, but the proofs showed that another evil had arrived in Qorjal.

"Me, you sir, and the Director of Intelligence and Scientific Communications. She was the one who discovered the issue actually." The guy kept his hands behind his back. He never felt so nervous and anxious in his entire life until now. He trembled and his hands sweat crazily. He never thought he would be in front of such an important person like he is right now.

The other turned himself to face a big window that held the view of a public plaza, full of people walking, talking, sitting, taking pictures, and living their lives with no worries. "Let's keep it quiet for now. If it leaks out to anyone, the media will know about it very soon and people will get terrified and I cannot let the country break over this." He turned himself to the scientist and got closer to him. "So here is how this is going to be, Mr. Wantogh. You will map its molecular anatomy sequencing, its genome, and nobody will know about it. When you finish it, report to your superior."

"T-that's clear. I'll do it, Mr. President, don't worry."

"Good. But I've got another question." He paused and the scientist nodded, waiting for the President to ask. "Who is the current Director of ISC?"

"It's Angelina Bethervan, sir."

The car stopped in a parking lot among another thousand ones that were occupied already. They left the car and saw a big building with a holographic dome in the middle of it. Full of windows, clear painting, and ornaments, they were at the Institute Atham DeVare, a place for the scientific community to work, study, make experiments, blow rooms, and stuff scientists do.

Usually, the place would be a complete mess of people walking up and down nonstop, even in the parking lot, but today not a single soul was passing by. Not even in the parking lot, or on the sidewalk, neither the park benches nor the food court. The wind got harder and thicker, making them shiver as they watched the mysterious situation in front of them.

"The place looks empty." Isaac commented as they started walking towards the front glass door. "The lights are out, and completely soundless."

"This is weird. Isaac, guns on." Both Isaac and Lola got their automatic pistols in hand, walking cautiously from that moment on. Gavin didn't have a gun so he was a bit lost but walking right behind them.

Lola opened the door by just forcing the tip of the gun against it and since it was already half-opened, she didn't have to put much force into it. She looked both sides and saw no one, just the lobby balcony in front of her, but with no one to administrate it. The first floor was entirely dark, counting on the daylight coming from the windows to give them a clear vision of what was happening. Lola turned to walk to the right side, giving them a view of a big hall with an elevator by its extremities. In that hall, lights were completely out, and no windows appeared since the hall gave entrances to the rooms, which had windows, but the curtains were blocking it in all the rooms by the right side of the corridor.

Lola kept walking ahead focusing her eyes on the dark in front of her when she stumbled into something heavy and long. She got her phone to brighten the floor and almost fell when she saw a dead body wearing a mask, gloves, and a medical coat. "Gavin! Isaac!" She screamed.

Both Gavin and Isaac analyzed what she was pointing at and looked horrified. "They were attacked, just like in the Camp." Isaac said with disdain, thinking about the disgusting monster that could have done those exterminations. Isaac couldn't wait to face that devil and rip it as long as its cells would take to be broken again and again.
