Pirate 1.1 : Captured (Ateez)

"Let's hurry."

I glance at my brother. We are in a human town to get some supplies. He is one of the warrior of the sea while I'm just your usual mermaid. Everyone says that my tail is exceptionally beautiful. It's mostly white with iridescent reflection. Like every mermaid, the scales of my tail can be used to cure diseases. I offered my first scale to my brother who was very sick and even the doctors couldn't do anything. But my scale healed him. So I was called special.

"If mother knows I took you out again, she's going to scalp my tail." Taehyung whispers "Hurry." He clasps his hands tighter with mine and walks quicker.

It isn't the first time I came to the human land. This country is called Ales and right now we are wandering through the capital to search some new offerings for the God of the Sea, Poseidon. We look like normal humans except our beauty. I feel that we aren't so different, but my brother is possibly the most beautiful man. Our cape and hoods are barely covering our skin.

Mermaids can live about a week without being in the water. About three days is already hard, so I couldn't imagine seven whole days without being in the sea. My brother stops as I'm out of breath. Walking is so much more difficult than swimming. It's difficult to get used to have two legs.

"No woman in my shop." The shopkeeper growls as he stares at me.

My brother flinches. I know already what he is going to say.

"Don't...move an inch from here. I'll be quick." He whispers.

While slaves aren't so spread in this country, mermaids and mermen were popular. Few knew the properties of their scales. However, their beauties was well known. Nobles usually bought them from pirates or merchant and exposed them into huge aquariums in their house. They died there, into a huge box of water.

"Is that a beautiful girl that I see here?" a drunken voice resonates.

I don't pay much attention to it, until a rough hand grabs my wrist and lifts me up. The man smells terrible. I feel the fear mounting in me as I try to push the man voice.

"What a beauty..." the man looks dazed for a moment "Won't you give this poor man a kiss?" he chuckles grabbing my chin.

Before I'm able to swat his hands off, he falls down. Knocked down. I stare at the man tilting his head at me. Younger than the drunkard, he has his hair one on a side and black on the other. He smiles at me.

"You should be careful my Lady." He says with a smile "A lot of bad people are in the streets here."

I keep my mouth shut. Unlike the other mermaids, I'm not able to control my voice as much as they do. Mermaids aren't sensitive to each other's voice. However, humans on the other hand are very sensitive and attracted to a mermaid's voice. In some tribes, mermen encourage mermaids to drown some men sailing near their habitat. My tribe never did that, but we did collect the money from the drown ships.

"Alina." Taehyung gets my attention "Are you alright?"

I nod. He glances at the drunkard who is mumbling on the floor.

"Shouldn't you thank me?" The man from before tilts his head "I saved your girl."

"That's my sister. Pirate." Taehyung says.

Heads turn at the word, but the man in front of us doesn't react. He tilts his head and takes a step closer. I'm too late to see the blade, but Taehyung isn't. He pushes me behind him and defends himself with his own dagger.

"I suggest you'll be careful, merman." The man whispers.

I sense my brother tense. It's a dangerous situation. If this man was really a pirate, then we were definitely in a bad situation. I held my brother's hand tightly. It was dangerous. Too dangerous.
