"I'm so tired." I stretched.

"Didn't you on a trip to Destiny Lake this weekend?" Paula asks.

"We did."

My family wasn't just any family. It was the Water family. Saying it like that does not seem much, but there weren't a lot of fairies that could manipulate water. In fact, it was fairly restrained to pure bloodlines. If a water fairy had a child with any other type of fairies, then the child born would not inherit their ability but the one of their partners. It was common occurrence that it happened.

Eart. Wind. Water. Fire. Light. Those five families were the most important one. The Council consisting of Elders, old fairies with apparently a lot of wisdom, had a member of each family except for ours. My father had refused to participate as a Council member due to past events. My older sister and I were of the purest water bloodline. Although our grandparents had an arranged marriage, my parents met normally. Fell in love with each other.

This world was divided into two populations.

At first, hundreds of years ago, it was not like this. There were only fairies and demons. Demons were a species that had developed intelligence through evolution. Evolution that they got from fighting against fairies. Exactly 250 years ago, the purge happened.

The purge was basically the purification of all demon species that had been led by the empire's crown princess Julia and her sister Elana. Two of the most powerful water fairies that ever existed. Their story was present in every book, relayed through the years. Especially Elana's sacrifice as she gave her life up for what they called the Demon King. A fairy tale story as tragic as it ended.

"What do you think she'll announce?" Paula changes subject.

Paula was an earth fairy. She was a very down to earth person which matched with her power. Unlike most people of our age, we hadn't been postulating in magic research. But in more concrete science in my opinion. Everyone was shocked that a water fairy hadn't been applying for the Magic defense exam or likely. I had refused to. My sister too. We refused to rely on our power.

"I don't know." I shrug stretching.

"Someone talked about vampires joining our class." Marco speaks from behind us.

I frown. The other part of the population was in fact Vampires. A mutation that had appeared after the purge. Fairies lost their power and grew a bloodthirst. First, fairies thought that demons had resurfaced, but no demonic energy had emerged. The 'mutated' fairies were sane. They just needed blood. They had been renamed as Vampires only 100 years ago.

"That would be insane." Timothy shook his head disapprovingly.

"Why?" I shrug "They won't try to jump on you and drink blood you know." I chuckle.

"You never know." He grumbles embarrassed as everyone giggles.

"Blood banks and blood bars exist for a reason." I continue. "It's useless to worry about being bitten as long as you haven't made a contract with them..." I feel heavier just speaking about it.

The other remain quiet at that. Everyone knows what happened to me 5 years ago. Still a minor, I was coming back from the library after working hard on some exams. I took a short cut and met a vampire that was in dire need of blood. I still remember his red iridescent eyes, the way he tried to resist. So, I offered him a contract and he drank from me. It was a euphoric feeling. I understood at that moment, the fairies that had become biting addicts.

However, I had forgotten in the moment something crucial. Minors weren't allowed to make contracts. I was caught by the council and punished. Meaning that at 17 years old, I had been tortured for three consecutive weeks. I still had scars from that period. Dark memories. And a devoted hatred for the Council. If I had left the vampire in his bloodthirst, he would have attacked a random fairy. I was in full possession of my body and thoughts.
