Can you believe it that after five years I have finally got my own place and my own job?

My adoptive parents would not. I feel quite familiar with how I manage my life right now and more importantly how I handle my studies. I feel more comfortable than I ever did before. It is tragic to speak like this and at the same time it is quite fun. I am quite excited about discovering more about myself and more about what is around me.

"How are you feeling today?" Maria asks me.

I smile as her burgundy eyes crinkle in happiness. I always fantasized about a normal society and a normal world. However, this society was focused on violence. People were intrinsically violent. It was quite difficult to know where humans took their origin or where the change began to start; but it was thousands of years ago for sure. I just wonder sometimes, when I cross the streets, what it would be for people to have different eye colors. Like blue, green, yellow or even black.

All there are: red, burgundy, pink or variants of brown.

If your eyes were brown, you didn't really have anything to worry about. Just your own ass and to make a good living to live comfortably.

Otherwise, from red to burgundy, you were affected by a disease called bloodthirst. Basically, it meant that you needed blood to survive. The clearer the red, the more intense the condition was. It was way more common than thought. Hospitals had special sections to 'feed' those people. It was never enough. Not only did red eyes need to drink blood but had also a need for violence. An increasing need.

"Elina don't daydream, sweep the floor properly." JB remarked as I was in fact lost in my thoughts.

"I am sweeping." I sighed as I made big movements with my arms.

He chuckled as he shook his head. JB had a heart of gold. He had employed me and taught me all about the art of making a good cake and a good coffee. Every kind of coffee. Every kind of cakes. It was a real pleasure to have been taught by him. I didn't know much about his past, except that he had been part of a mafia group.

Sounding like this, it looked like I was insane to take this job. However, mafia people were much more common than expected. There were several groups. Of several intentions, but none of them messed with brown eyed people. Main reason why I wore lenses.

"Better answer the call of the customers." JB called as I rushed to the ringing phone. I hadn't even noticed. He was always so quick to note everything. A real red eyed man.

"Hi, you're in contact with Bonheur Café, what can I do for you?" I ask as I take a closer look to the booking we have today. This café was specialized in receiving mafia people who dealt in complete peace here. It was a neutral territory or at least trying to be one.

"A table for three. For lunch time." The voice on the other side of the phone sounds rough, but I don't comment on it. I do not recognize each customers voices, even though some of them are more than regulars. They come every single day.

"Noted. Name?" I ask.

"Strays." And hangs up.

I look at the phone and roll my eyes. Always weird code names. I decide to ignore it and pay more attention to the customers that are entering the café in this early morning. There were also what I would qualify to be 'normal people' here. I was also seen as normal.

"Here." I raised my head to meet eyes with a young male that I knew.

When his eyes met mine, the redness of them surprised me. In my memory, Seungmin did not have red eyes like this. He also looks quite surprised to see me, but it only lasts a few seconds.
