17: Betrayal

When Lillian woke up, she wasn't in his office. Her body was wrapped up in blue sheets, but she was still wearing her clothes. She sat up and looked around the room, half expecting it to be Erwin's. But it wasn't. Lillian yawned and stood up with a grin on her face.

She thought about the night before and the words Erwin had said to her. About how much he wanted, no, needed to be with her. Butterflies flapped around in Lillian's stomach as she thought about his blue eyes looking at her. Her fingers traced her neck, recalling how good it felt to be kissed and nipped at there.

As Lillian got dressed and ready for the day all she could think about was going and seeing him again. It was mid morning so chances were he was in his office as usual. Since he accepted Hange's plea to capture a titan he was probably sitting at his desk drafting up plans for it.

Maybe he was even thinking about me. Lillian blushed at the notion.

Without knocking she walked into his office.

"What are you doing?" Erwin asked her in his normal serious tone, not the soft one he had used with her last night.

"Coming to see you of course."

"Please knock next time." Erwin stood up and walked up to her.

"I'm happy to see you again. I'm sorry that I fell asleep last night, I'm guessing you carried me back to my bedroom?"

"Yes, about that Lily-Lillian." He paused and corrected himself. "Lieutenant. I made a mistake. I was drunk and wasn't thinking straight. It would be better if we both just forgot about it."

Lillian's chest tightened. Her eyes stung as she tried to hide back tears. Where the hell was this coming from? Her hands trembled as she reached for him, but Erwin backed away from her. He turned his back to her, he couldn't even look her in the eyes.

"Erwin, you must be joking. Please tell me you are." It felt as if there was a hot piece of metal stuck inside of her throat, making her unable to breathe. Where was this coming from? Last night he spilt out every thought and feeling he had about her, and now he was taking it away. Everything that made Lillian feel loved and wanted.

"Lieutenant-"

"No! You're joking. Please! What happened? Did Levi get to you? Please don't listen to him." Lillian followed after him, refusing to believe him. She had been so terrified that all the things he had said last night were lies, a joke. But after he kissed her and said such sweet things, she believed him. What a fool.

"I think it's best if you go." Erwin said, opening up the door for her.

"Erwin-"

"It's Commander."

Lillian walked out the door and to her room. Tears ran down her face like a waterfall. How could she have been so dumb? She felt used and abused, and from just some kind words and kisses. Lillian was happy they hadn't taken things further than that. She couldn't imagine how much more disgusting she would have felt more than now if she had slept with him.

"Lillian?" Someone called for her.

She covered her ears as she entered the safety of her room. She laid under her bed, trying to hide from the pain. She had loved so much and lost so much all in the span of under a day.

Outside Lillian could hear the voices of her friends trying to talk to her through the door. She pressed her palms harder into her ears, and squeezed her eyes shut tighter.

"Are you kidding me?" Kenny yelled at her as he cornered Lillian. "It's like you don't even listen to what I'm sayin!"

"I'm sorry." She whimpered through tears. Lillian tried to wipe them away with her sleeve before he could see.
