Everything was so warm. He thought that when he died everything would be cold, and it had been for a second. But then a warmth filled him up and made him feel whole. He swore he had heard a voice, a voice beckoning him back. But something was keeping him from waking up, perhaps it was just his own exhaustion.
As the time went on he could start to feel more than just warmth. He could smell the rotting of flesh and the burned down houses. His mouth had a sour taste to it. But more than anything he wanted to see what was touching his hand.
So Erwin forced his eyes open. At first it was only a flutter, then as his eyes opened all the way, and he understood everything.
They were on top of the wall, Erwin was shirtless with the sun basking him in its warmth. Lillian was beside him, holding onto his left hand as she was sitting besides him. Her eyes were closed and she rested her head in her hand, dark bags hung under her eyes.
"Lily." Erwin spoke in a voice barely above a whisper.
Her jade green eyes shot open. She lunged at Erwin, falling into his warm embrace. "You're awake." Her voice lingered with exhaustion.
Erwin wrapped his right arm around her. Then he pulled it back to look at it. His arm was back, that must have meant...
"Lillian." Erwin whispered into her hair. His new right arm held the back of Lillian's head, as he pressed soft kisses into the top of her head.
Lillian held onto him tighter. "Promise me you won't ever do something so stupid again. Levi told me all about what you did. It was brave, but I'm sick of your stupid gambles."
Erwin chuckled then nodded. He pulled his head back so he could look at her before smashing his lips into hers. Lillian followed, moving her arms from his chest up to around his neck. Lillian kissed him for a couple moments before he pulled away.
"Wait, which titan shifter did you capture?"
"Armin got the colossal, you have the armored."
"Was it decided that Armin get it, or was he also on the brink of death?"
"He got burnt so badly he was unrecognizable." Lillian shivered at what she had seen those couple of hours ago.
"So where is everybody else th-" Erwin looked past Lillian, behind her the rest of the Scouts that were alive were standing watching them. And for the first time and last time the Scouts saw Erwin blush.
"Erwin, it's good to see you alive." Levi spoke dryly and as if he didn't care, but Lillian could see the happiness he was trying to hide. Not to mention Lillian also saw how he was willing to keep Erwin alive over Armin.
"Good to be alive." Erwin squeezed Lillian's hand. "I have a wife and a basement to get to."
Levi glared at Lillian. "Did you tell him yet?"
"No, he just woke up then you interrupted us." Lillian said, using a tone as harsh as Levi had with her.
Erwin looked between the two. He had never heard either of them this angry at the other before. Sure like any siblings they had their quarrels, but this seemed to go farther than that.
"You should tell him, then we should get heading to the cellar. It will take us a while to get back to Trost, and we will want to get back befo-"
"I get it." Lillian snapped at her brother. "Besides, I was going to tell him when we got back home."
