Y/N:

Y'all I'm sorry, I was wrong. This chapter isn't the beach one. Sorry I got it wrong :(

"Where is my niece?" Hange barged into the room, not caring to knock first. Lillian laid in bed, holding her daughter. There were dark circles under her eyes, and her stomach was still bloated from having a baby. She looked horrible, but Erwin still thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world. Levi was sharing tea with his sister while Erwin was busying himself with chores.

"Hange." Levi's eyes narrowed at the woman. "Can't you see she's sleeping?"

"Sorry." Hange matched Levi's voice, softening and lowering hers. "How are you Lil?"

"I'm fine." Lillian smiled, showing Hange her daughter.

"She looks squishy." Hange sat on the bed next to Lillian. Erwin stopped what he was doing and walked back over to sit by his wife.

"She looks like you, Erwin."

Little Carina still had the same round face and pudgey features all babies had, so it was hard to tell which parent she looked like more. She had Erwin's blonde hair and blue eyes, but her eyes were narrow like Lillian's and her nose was also the same as her mother's.

"How hard was it having her?" Hange asked.

"Not that bad." Lillian shrugged.

Levi and Erwin made eye contact, both of them wanting to say so much but choosing to say nothing instead. Hange had caught this interaction and chuckled.

"Can I hold her?"

Lillian nodded and carefully set her daughter in Hange's arms. "Be careful with her."

"Of course. I'm just excited to see her." Hange smiled down at the baby, rocking her in her arms. "Levi has been forcing me to keep my distance for days, it's nice to meet-"

"Carina." Erwin told her.

Hange looked at the couple with a frown. "Not Hange?"

Erwin and Lillian shared a look. "Next time?"

"That's what I like to hear." Hange kissed the baby on the forehead. "You are so cute. I think your parents should give you a sibling soon."

"It hasn't even been a week." Lillian sighed.

"How long until you two can have sex again?"

"I'm going to leave." Levi got up from the chair and left the room.

Hange smiled at the closing door. She waited till it was closed to open her mouth. "Good, I'm glad he's gone. I have to talk to you two about something."

"Oh?" Lillian watched as Hange gave the baby back to Erwin. For the couple of days she had been alive, Lillian barely held her daughter. It was always Erwin holding her. Carina was already a daddy's girl.

"It's a tragedy that Erwin almost missed you giving birth. And I know that your workload won't be changing any time soon. All of us Scouts are thankful for your service Erwin-"

"Are you making me retire?" Erwin asked. He wasn't scared, Hange didn't have the power to get rid of him.

"No. But if you want to, I am proposing that as an option." Hange clasped her hands together. "If you wanted to spend less time being a Scout and more time being a husband and father then I am willing to take on some of your workload, or even take over."

"Wow." Lillian couldn't help but smile. More time together was exactly what the couple wanted.

"Hange I don't know what to say." Erwin paused, taking in a deep breath. "That's quite a generous offer. But it's too much for you to handle."

"He's kinda right. Erwin already does the work of multiple people." Lillian leaned into Erwin, rubbing his shoulder.

"I know what I'll be taking on, ok? I'm here to help. Before you make your decision, don't worry about work for the next couple weeks. I'll take care of it. You can think of it as my trial run." Hange laughed.

Erwin looked down at Carina, then smiled at Hange. "Thank you."

"So you're accepting?" Lillian asked her husband.

"You'll only be helping me with some things. Don't go around calling yourself Commander."

"Wouldn't dream of it." Hange caressed the baby's head then walked to the door. "Also I should have let you know earlier, but you have more visitors than just me."

"What do you mean?" Lillian asked.

Hange opened the door to reveal Levi's squad in their living room. Levi looked at Hange with an annoyed expression.

"Lily just gave birth, the last thing she wants is a bunch of dirty kids holding Carina." Levi explained to Hange.

"I couldn't resist inviting them! They were all wondering what happened, and it didn't help that Connie and Sasha were spreading false intel."

"So can we see the baby, or not?" Connie asked.

"Did you brats wash your hands first?" Levi asked.

Some of them nodded.

Lillian's jade eyes met Erwin's blue ones. He smiled and shook his head. Lillian gestered for them to come in. All six of them came in at once, swarming around the bed to get a look at the baby.

"She's so tiny." Jean commented.

"Of course she's tiny you dingbat, she's four days old!" Sasha playfully hit her friend.

"She's adorable, Lieutenant." Armin said.

"Would you like to hold her?" Erwin asked the group as a whole, but his eyes were set on someone.

It took Mikasa a second to realize it was her Erwin was talking about. "If it's ok that I hold her?"

"Actually," surprisingly it was Eren who spoke up. "May I hold her first?"

Lillian smiled. She nodded and gestured to Erwin to hand Carina to Eren. Erwin stood up from the bed and gently placed her in the boy's arms. Carina squirmed a bit, sad to leave her father's arms, but quickly adjusted to the stranger. She opened her sky blue eyes for just a second to get a look up at Eren, then closed them again.

Eren's eyes were wide as he looked down at her. This is why. This is why he was going to do what he was going to do. Sure Carina had Ackerman blood, but she was still an Eldian, a Subject of Ymir. She was still in danger. And Eren would free her.
