6: Requited Feelings

"Have you found anything yet?" Furlan whispered to Lillian.

Lillian shook her head no.

The two of them had snuck into Erwin's office and decided to divide and conquer. Furlan was searching one side while Lillian searched the other side.

"I can't believe Isabel made me do this." Lillian said mostly to herself.

"I had offered to do it by myself, I don't know why she was so pushy about making you go."

"Furlan, you'll go into the office and have a look around while the three of us watch out for Erwin."

"Why doesn't Lily go with you, Furlan? You know, it might speed up the process. Bro and I can keep an eye out." Isabel winked at Lillian. "Just make sure you two don't make too much noise."

Lillian's face went a dark red.

"Of course we're gonna be quiet. We don't want Erwin or any other Scout hearing us. It's gonna be suspicious enough with you two keeping watch." Furlan gestured to Levi and Isabel.

Lillian pushed back the memory of the conversation from earlier. She swore Isabel lived just to annoy her. The little sister she never had or wanted.

"Still nothing?" Furlan was now behind her, his breath hit the back of her neck causing Lillian to jump.

"Please don't scare me like that." Lillian put a hand on her chest trying to calm her heart. Bad enough he scared her, but he was also so close to her.

"Sorry Little Lily." Furlan teased in a whisper.

Lillian took a step back, hoping that would settle her racing heart. "We might as well stop looking, clearly nothing is here."

The signal, a whistle, made Furlan and Lillian stop in their tracks. The two of them hurried out and relocked the door behind them. The four of them silently moved through the hallways and into an old storage room close by.

"We keep coming up empty. I think we should assume that it's not in his room." Furlan said.

"So, where's he keeping it then?" Isabel asked.

"Think about it. Where do you keep something when you can't risk having it stolen?" 

"I stick it right here." Isabel said, hitting her ribcage. "Tucked under my belly band!" Isabel looked to Lillian with an awkward smile. Lillian gave her a thumbs up. 

"I doubt Erwin wears that particular garment, but the point stands."

"He might, we don't know." Lillian whispered to herself mostly, but she heard Levi chuckle slightly. 

"He's probably keeping this document on him. So here's my bright idea; let's wait for the expedition beyond the wall. Out there, his attention and everyone else's will be focused on dealing with the titans. We're sure to find an opportunity."

"Good thinking! I like it!" Isabel cheered.

"Wait. Why don't we just do it now? If we are able to lure him away from everyone, maybe in the forest where we practiced with the ODM gear. Then we can torture him to find out where the document is, then kill him. Get the document and run off on horseback." Lillian suggested.

"No offense Lily. But that is why we don't let you plan things." Furlan turned away from one sibling to another. "Levi, what do you think about my plan?" 

"I'll do it." He said after a couple silent seconds. "But I'll do it on my own."

"What?" The chorus of three voices asked.
