22: Campfires and Hunting

The Scouts retreated into the woods for the night. After a long day filled with riding and titans, everyone was excited to set up camp for the night even if it was in the middle of titan territory.

Lillian had rode with Mike's squad for the day. Not that she minded, it was nice to be with Mike and Nanaba, but she would rather have been with Erwin.

"You weren't hurt today, were you?" Erwin asked, sneaking up behind Lillian and wrapping his arms around her.

Lillian rolled her eyes and turned to her boyfriend. "We shouldn't be doing this out here. Someone could catch us." Before Erwin had found her, Lillian was patrolling the woods around where they would be setting up camp for the night. And luckily she had been alone.

"I was only curious." He bent down and kissed her. Lillian accepted the kiss but was quick to push him away.

"Why did you think I was hurt?"

"I saw you fighting that titan earlier, and it looked like you hit the ground hard."

Lillian wiped some dirt from her cloak. "I'm fine. But-" she again pushed Erwin away as he inched closer to her. "You should go before someone starts to look for you."

"You're trying to get away from me? Aren't you?"

"A little, yeah." Lillian chuckled. "I'm hungry, and I saw a deer nearby."

Erwin clicked his tongue. "You aren't actually going to hunt with your ODM gear, are you?"

Lillian drew her blade. "Don't test me."

"I wish you luck with your hunting." Erwin couldn't help but smile as he made his way back to camp. He sneakily made his way back to the clearing and into his tent without anyone noticing that he left.

"Commander!" Hange didn't wait for Erwin to respond before she opened the tent's flap.

"Hange." Erwin breathed out. "You're just the person I wanted to see actually." He resisted the urge to smile. "I need you and Mike to look for Lillian. She went off into the woods somewhere, and I need her for something."

Hange raised a brow at the request. "May I ask why?"

"I'm switching her from Mike's squad to Dirk's squad. She'll be more helpful there." Erwin forced a bitter tone as he talked about his secret girlfriend.

"Right." Hange shook her head, still not understanding the hostility Erwin and Lillian had for each other.

She took her orders from Erwin and grabbed Mike before she went to look for Lillian.

"Are you fucking kidding me?" Lillian said under her breath. The deer she had in her sights ran off at the sound of Hange.

"Lillliiiiaaannnnnn!" Hange sang.

"Up there!" Mike pointed up in the trees to where Lillian was sitting, stalking her prey.

"Can you two be quiet, please?" Lillian said to the two. She used her ODM gear to cushion her fall to the ground. "I'm trying to score us a special dinner for tonight."

Mike raised his head and sniffed the air. "Venison?"

Lillian rolled her eyes. "Lucky guess."

"Are you seriously hunting with your ODM gear?"

"The deer out here aren't as skittish as the deer closer to the wall. I can get closer to them." Lillian sheathed her blades. "Is there a reason why you two came looking for me?"

"Erwin wants to speak with you. He sent Mike and I out here to look for you."

Lillian didn't have to force herself to roll her eyes. She crossed her arms over her chest and huffed. Her jade eyes looked over in the direction where the deer had run off to.
