NEXT DAY

A whole 38 days without talking or seeing Winter. Can't say I don't miss her cuz I do. But I had to set boundaries and let her know that if I can't have all of her, we shouldn't deal with each other. Yes, at first I knew what it was but I couldn't help that my feelings got the best of me. I wanted her to myself.

__________

I was making my way to the last neighborhood of the day. Sometimes I don't want to come to this neighborhood cuz I don't want to see Winter. I don't know what will happen and that makes me nervous.

Everything went smoothly. I saw Lay and Aday, we talked for a bit before I left. I had a few packages then I got to the last house. I was grabbing their mail when the door opened. I looked up to see Clark coming out. He waved while walking to the car leaving the door open and I waved back. Winter was who I was expecting to walk out the door but out came a tall white woman with her red lipstick smeared. I shook my head before sliding the mail into the mailbox and pulled off.

I rode all the way to the post office thinking about what I had just seen. I was stuck between calling Winter to tell her or not. I didn't want her to think I was watching her house or something. I thought about it as I clocked out and decided against it. While walking out I ran into Lilian.

"Long time no see..." I said making her laugh

"It's only been 2 weeks..." she said

"2 weeks too long..." I said
"How was the anniversary trip??"

"It was amazing. We haven't done something like that in a while so it was refreshing and fun..." she says with a big smile

"That's good..." I said
"You're glowing and happy. You didn't get pregnant did it??"

"Noooo, we use protection but we also were going by faith..." she said making me laugh

"Well, I'm glad to hear you enjoyed yourself..." I said smiling

"You heading off??" She asked

"Yeah, ready to enjoy my 5-day weekend..." I said

"I'm just coming back now you off for a week. That's fucked up..." she said

"It's only 5 days..." I said using the same tone she used with me

"Oh fuck you..." she says pushing me making me laugh

We talked a bit more before I dipped. I had to stop by the grocery store to get groceries. I'm running low so I need to restock. I was going down each aisle but was only getting what I needed. I was grabbing some Powerades when I was bout to turn the corner and I heard Winter's voice. I peeked around the corner to see her and the white woman that I saw coming outta the house behind Clark. They were smiling at each other and Winter was pushing the basket. They went on the aisle before you got to the one I was on.

Did they bring someone else into their marriage?

Was this her friend but sleeping with her already cheating ass husband?

I caught myself getting into it too much. I reminded myself that I didn't have anything to do with whatever they had going on. I finished grocery shopping and went home. I put in the groceries and went to shower. While in the shower, I decided I was cooking something. Now, what Imma cook was the question.

I did what I needed and got out of the shower. I laid in bed for a while in my towel before I finished drying off and slipping on my clothes. I left out my room and went into the kitchen to see Ke with her whole damn body in the fridge.

"Nigga what the hell is you doing??" I asked

She brung her body out chewing with big eyes. I bust out laughing.

"You scared me..." she said pushing me

"What you eating??" I asked

"Pasta salad..." she said

"Where you get pasta salad from??" I asked

"Winter, she cooked it for baby and I..." she said "Want some??"

"Nah, I'm good..." I said
"But you still be talking to her??"

"Every now and then we talk. What happened with you two??" She asked

"N-..." I started

"And don't say nothing cuz she says the same thing. But it's something. You don't talk about her no more, she hasn't been here in almost two months, and you both been acting like sad puppies..." she said

"I do not be walking around here acting like no sad puppy..." I said

"You get off work, come home, and go straight to your room. The only time you come out is to eat..." she said looking at me

"I be tired..." I said

"Okay tired..." she said
"But for real, what happened??"

"She was divorcing her husband but got it dismissed..." I said

"Why??" She asked

"She said when she filed for divorce, he froze her bank account so she couldn't access her money unless she dismissed it..." I said

"And that's understandable..." she said
"So you broke it off cuz she's still married??"

"Basically..." I said

"But you knew she was married before y'all started messing around. She's been married this whole time so why is it a problem now??" She asked

"She can't fully be mine so I see no need to keep dealing with her..." I said

"Kass she was never fully yours from the get go, but I do understand you..." she said
"But also, actions speak louder than words, she was always here. She was here more than she was home for real. She spent the whole week here when you found out about your mom, she was here for you..."

"And I've been there for her too..." I said

And she nodded.

"It's just she made you happy. I've never seen you smile so much in my life. She made a different side come outta you and I loved it. She's getting a divorce in a few weeks to a month, why you couldn't stick it out??" She asked

"I'm nobody's second option..." I said

"Oh but you was, and you knew it. But yet and still, you pursued her then y'all caught feelings for each other. Lastly, y'all just broke it off. Y'all have unfinished business and I hope to see y'all happy soon..." she said before she ate another fork full of pasta salad and walked off
