I just woke up to a knock on the door. I had the meanest fucking headache from all the crying I've been doing. I got up and I only had the strength to unlock the door. I rushed back to the bed as the door opened.
"Kass..." I heard
"Yes, Dad..." I said
"Get up..." he said
"Hmmmm..." I whined
He grabbed the cover off me making me smack my lips.
"Dad my head is banging and I'm not for it..." I said honestly
"Get your ass up Kassidy..." he said making me sit up with a pout
He shook his head. He put his hand out to feel my forehead and my neck.
"You're a lil hot..." he said
"You need to eat something so I can give you some medicine..." he said
"I don't think I can stomach food right now..." I said looking at him
"Kass you gotta eat something. Your mom would whoop my ass if you knew I let you go this long without eating..." he said making me laugh a lil
"She'll be looking at me looking for a donut..." I said as we laughed more
It calmed down as I looked at my hands.
"Dad..." I said looking at him
He raised his eyebrows.
"What are we going to do without her..." I said softly as I felt my throat starting to burn
He grabbed my hand and placed his other hand on top of mine.
"The only thing we can do is continue to live life. That's what she wants for us. It's okay to grief and mourn but don't let this hinder you from continuing life..." he said
"She's not suffering anymore and going through what she was going through. I'm happy and relieved that she's not hurting anymore..."
He had tears approaching but he blinked them away.
"I just wished things weren't like this..." I said looking at him
He pulled me into him and hugged me.
"It's going to be okay, I promise..." he said patting my back
We hugged for a minute before pulling away and he kissed my forehead.
"Dad..." I said smiling making him chuckle
"You're too grown for a forehead kiss??" He asked
I just shook my head with a smile.
A knock on the door making us both look at the door. It was Ke leaning against the door.
"How are you??" She asked looking at me
"I'm okay for now, just have a throbbing headache..." I said and she nodded
"Everyone that was on the trip has sent their condolences and hope you feel better soon..." she said making me nod
"Winter is worried about you and she says she texted you..."
I sighed and nodded.
"I'm going to finish cooking so you can eat..." he said getting up leaving Ke and I
"So, what's going on between you and her??" She asked
"Nothing..." I said
"You aren't going to try to rekindle with her. You wanted her to be free so what's the wait??" She asked
"Ke, I don't know right now..." I said
"But you were sure that's what you wanted before. Does her not being in the marriage not give you that drive to be with her the way it did when she was married??" She asked
"It's not like that. It's too much going on in my life to be thinking about getting into a relationship right now..." I said
"Then you should communicate that to her..." Dad said scaring us
"Life is too short to sit and let things pass you by. Act on what you want and let things fall in place. Don't leave her guessing, tell her what it is, and stop the games. If you want to be with her, tell her. If you don't, tell her so she can go on bout her business instead of sitting around worried and waiting for you..."
"Right, Unc..." Ke said
"Y'all giving me a bigger headache..." I said throwing my head back against the wall
"We just saying, you better make it known before she gets snatched up again..." Ke said
She and Dad left as I laid back down. I grabbed my phone to see her text with many others.

I clicked her text and it opened up to our messages.

-Hey, I'm okay for now despite this headache I have. And thank you ❤️
She instantly texted back.

- I had gone to sleep so I didn't know you texted until Ke told me

- I don't wanna hold you up too long so text me when you can later

That was the last thing before I got up to go to the bathroom. I did my business then washed my hand. I left and went into the front where Dad, Ke, and a few family members were. It was only a few cuz earlier the house was full of folks.
"Hey Kassidy, you're finally up..." my auntie Cheryl said
I gave her a side-eye.
"Cheryl she wants you to call her Kass, can you do as she asked..." Dad says
"Is her name not Kassidy??" She asked
"It is, but I prefer for you to call me Kass..." I said
"Whatever..." she says throwing her hand up and waving me off kinda
I rolled my eyes before I sat between my dad and Ke.
"Food shouldn't take much longer before it's ready..." Dad said making me nod
"Your mom coming down??" I asked Ke
She doesn't have the funds for that. But for the funeral, I'm going to get her a flight here..." she said and I nodded
"Speaking of the funeral, Dad when are we going to start planning??" I asked
"We can wait until tomorrow or the day after. I have to go through the file cabinet to get the insurance policy to take to the funeral home..." he said and I nodded
I looked to see Ke on her phone texting Arya.
"What are they doing on the trip??" I asked
"They did those tourist attraction tour things and went to a carnival..." she said and I nodded
"Did you text Winter back??"
"I did..." I said
"Good cuz she was worried..." she said
