New Beginnings Scene 3

Daphne's POV:

"You slept with her didn't you?"

Lauren shuts her locker and looks at me as I lean against my locker.

"If you must know yes I did sleep with her. How did you know?" Lauren questions with a raised eyebrow.

"You didn't come home last night and you're glowing."

"Everybody knew I was spending the night at Veronica's after our date so me not coming home last night isn't shocking."

"I know. I guess I'm just not used to you not being home."

"Well, it's something you're gonna have to get used to. Veronica is my girlfriend now and I'm gonna be spending a lot of time with her."

She says it like I'm dependent on her. Yes, we usually spend almost every waking moment together but I'm completely fine on my own. When she's out with her family I'm alone and I'm perfectly okay.

"Don't you think you're taking this a little too fast?"

"And what do you mean by that?" Lauren crosses her arms over her chest.

"Sleeping with her so fast. It's only been two weeks since you first thought about asking her out."

"Don't you think that's a bit hypocritical? Especially since you already slept with Choni."

"It's not hypocritical because I haven't slept with them." I say quietly.

"What's wrong? They won't put out?" Lauren chuckles.

Okay, now she's pissing me off.

"No, actually they were very willing. I'm the one who said no."

"You turned down sex with two hot-ass girls? That's not like you." Lauren states.

"That's not like me? You make it seem like I'm some sex-crazed teenager and you know that's not true. You know very well I've only slept with two people. Or do I need to remind you? And you know the second person I had sex with fucked my head up more than it already was. I can't just jump into bed with somebody willy-nilly. I thought I could but I can't." I shake my head.

"You don't need to remind me who you've slept with. I know them both. And I told you not to sleep with the second person but you didn't listen to me. Maybe you shouldn't have slept with either of them."

"I regret sleeping with the second person but I don't regret sleeping with the first person and I really wish you would stop trying to make me feel like I should."

"Well, maybe you should." Lauren shrugs.

I shake my head.

"You're changing and I'm not sure I like the person you're becoming bunny."

"Maybe you're the one that's changing ducky."

"I'm the same person I've always been." I sling my backpack onto my shoulder.

"Well then maybe you need to change. Sometimes change can be good."

"You're right, sometimes change can be good."

"Glad you see it my way." Lauren says with a smile.

"But the change isn't good this time."

Her smile drops as I brush past her.

"Daphne!" She calls out.

I ignore her as I walk down the hallway avoiding eye contact with Choni. They weren't very happy when I turned down their advances. I don't want to just jump into bed with them. I want to do this right.

We have a substitute in Mr. Honey's class today so I decide to skip it and head to the gym and shoot some hoops and think about things.

I somehow convinced Dad to pay to build an athletic center. Principal Weatherbee and all the coaches were very happy with the news.

When I enter the gym I see the light on in Coach Blossom's office and hear talking. I creep over to the door and peek inside. The four people I need to talk to are in the office.

I knock on the door.

"Come in!" Coach Blossom calls out.

I enter the office and look at the four adults.

"What can we do for you, Daphne?" Asks Coach Blossom.

"I need to talk to y'all."
