Sibling Step Up

Daphne's POV:

"I'm here! The party can now begin."

"I thought you said he wasn't coming, Mama."

"He told me he wasn't."

I look at the back door where my older brother stands with a group of his friends. Friends that I don't like and don't like me. Caleb makes my life a living hell.

Caleb is seventeen, while I'm sixteen, but we're in the same grade cause he got held back. We also have different fathers.

Dad pats my back, and I walk over to the girls while Mama walks over to Caleb and his friends.

"We can go to my house if you don't want to be here, baby." Lauren says, rubbing my arm.

I sigh.

"I would love to skip out, but I promised the twins a fun day in the pool. I'll deal with Caleb, Ashley, Ashton, and Kiara. Plus, we have an issue to address with them, and I think now is the perfect time to do it."

"Alright, everyone, gather around. There are announcements to be made." Mama smiles and claps.

Everyone gathers with the girls and me. Malachi and Melinda stand in front of me.

"I believe there are only three announcements today. Correct?" Mama looks at me.

"That's right, but I have something I need to address afterwards if that's okay."

"That's perfectly fine, angel. Who wants to go first?" Dad questions.

I look at Lauren, Ally, Dinah, Mani, and Mila, nodding with a smile.

The only people here today who know what their announcement is are I, Clara, and Mike. My parents, siblings, Chris, and Taylor are in for a surprise.

"Well, the girls and I have thought long and hard about this and talked it out thoroughly, and we've decided to audition for X-Factor." Ally says with a smile.

Malachi, Melinda, Taylor, and Chris cheer and hug the girls, followed by Mama and Dad.

"You girls will do excellent." Dad smiles.

"Thank you, Gio. Your support means a lot to us." Mani returns his smile.

"They won't make it past the first round." Kiara laughs.

Most of us glare at her, causing her to go silent with an eye roll.

"Is Daphne gonna go with y'all?" Taylor asks excitedly.

I chuckle and clasp my hands together.

"That actually brings us to our next announcement." I clear my throat. "I do plan to be there for them when they audition, as long as Mama and Dad are okay with it."

"We're fine with it, sweetie."

I smile at Mama.

"I, however, won't be able to be with them much, unfortunately, if I accept this opportunity that has been presented to me."

"What opportunity is that, babe?"

I look at Lauren with a smile as I tap Malachi on the shoulder. He turns and hands Lauren a gift bag.

"Go ahead, baby, open it."

She pulls out the tissue paper and hands it to Ally. Lauren reaches into the bag and pulls out a shirt. Ally takes the bag so Lauren can look at the shirt.

"Does this mean what I think it means?"

"Yes."

"I don't get it."
