Summary:
Boys in love. That's it. Just fluff.
Work Text:
On Tuesday there was a yellow envelope waiting when he got home. On Wednesday it was purple. Thursday and Friday brought red and orange. Each had his name written on it in writing he was sure he knew but couldn't place. Each one had a note that was briefly written. The tingle he got when he opened the first envelope told him that Nick was behind this (even before he read the first one and knew for certain), but Nick was even further away than usual on a rugby trip to Edinburgh, so he had an accomplice. There were no postage stamps. He considered Tori, but she had rolled her eyes when the second one came and walked away mumbling something about the need to wash away the sap from her body. Isaac perhaps. Darcy if she were close enough, he was sure she was involved somehow. Each day he had opened the envelope and laid out the pieces of paper.
Yellow: You're my favourite menace
Purple: Go and buy a bubblegum milkshake and pretend it's me kissing you
Red: Sometimes I stand under the oak tree on campus and pretend we are at our tree
Orange: I saved a piece of the chocolate you sent me so we can share it when I see you again
Charlie had rolled his eyes, lovingly, at the notes he had received. His boyfriend was an absolute sap, and Charlie loved every single thing about him.
On Saturday he woke to the noises of his parents in the kitchen, he glanced at the clock and saw it was almost ten. Nick had said he would call him at eleven so they could talk before he started on the trip back to Leeds. Charlie got dressed and was brushing his teeth when he heard the doorbell ring.
"Charlie, can you get the door please? It's probably the postman."
Charlie almost rolled his eyes until he considered that there might be another envelope for him, an actual posted one this time. He quickly wiped his face and ran down the stairs, pulling the door open.
He was right. There was another envelope. A blue one. With his name on it in handwriting he was very sure about it. Holding it was his boyfriend who was apparently not going to be calling him from Edinburgh in forty five minutes.
"Delivery for Charlie Spring."Charlie could not contain the smile on his face as he leaped into Nick's arms. They held each other for much, much longer than ten seconds, both of them breathing the other in.
"Are you going to open your envelope?"
Charlie took the envelope from Nick's hands, noticing that there was something more than paper in it. He giggled as he opened it and saw what it was. He raised it to his mouth and bit off half the piece of chocolate and placed the other half in Nick's mouth.
"Get dressed, it's time for milkshakes and a picnic under our tree. I have to be on the train at six tonight."
"Ok. But I'm not kissing you if you get bubblegum."
"I think we both know you will."
"Who helped you organise this? I need to send them flowers."
"I'm sure Otis' brother would love to get flowers from you, he talks about how amazing you are to work with in the library all the time. He turned his back on me last time I visited when I mentioned your name." Nick laughed as he pulled his boyfriend in close to him.
They might not get a lot of time together but they definitely had fun and made the most of it.
