Corruption In The Station

When I thought about finally getting a job at the Raccoon Police Department I definetly didn't envision being caught up in a dark conspiracy against my boss, Chief Brian Irons. Wearing the uniform meant I was a protector to those who needed it, and I soon found out from the uneasy feelings and suspicious activities that the whole of Racoon City was in danger from the very people who were supposed to be their safety. The whole conspiracy began when I was assigned to work with the other rookie, Leon S. Kennedy. We were both new, and the officers assumed we weren't as smart or capable due to our lack of experience. Whilst some of their guesses were right, they underestimated our willingness to dive head first into our job and do a damn good job of it. It turned out though, that we were too good. It started with little things going missing; files, evidence, pay checks. Soon after Leon and I began to notice the strange and nervous glances from officers when we caught them conspiring, or the all too frequent visits to the chief's office.

I couldn't shake the feeling that something was very wrong with this place, that something sinister was lurking under the surface of this façade of a justice system, and I wasn't alone. One night after work I finally confided in Leon, the only officer who I seemed to trust. To my relief, he seemed to share my opinions. We were at a loss as to what to do, how could two rookies go against the very man in charge without losing our jobs? We did think of heading upstairs to the S.T.A.R.S office and asking for assistance, but we didn't know if they were in on it too, so we stuck to becoming Sherlock and Watson on our own. We spent countless nights at my apartment thinking of motives and connections, we met up at run down bars to share theories, and we sneakily begun conducting our private investigation during the hours of our shifts. It seemed like the deeper we dug, the more ominous the whole situation became. I wasn't just the RPD that was corrupted, but a company that practically owned Raccoon seemed to have the city in its evil clutches.

We couldn't take on Umbrella, but we could take on the very place that aided their malicious intents. One afternoon Leon and I were leant over my desk, with him keeping an eye out as I poured through the files we'd managed to get hold of.

"These numbers don't make sense," I murmured, brows furrowing at the missing chunks of money and the enormous sums going out to various individuals.

Leon nodded in agreement, his eyes narrowing with determination. "It's like someone's trying to cover their tracks." He hated this more than I did, especially because he'd spent his whole life leading up to this, only for now the hurdle to be bigger than he'd ever anticipated. We'd reached all the clues we could find, and now it was a matter of gathering enough evidence on Irons to bring him down for good. The trouble was, the chief of police tended to keep everything in his office, including himself. He spent more time in that office than he did anywhere else- surely that itself caused room for suspicion?

"We need to get into Irons' office, before he catches onto us." I tell Leon as we walk upstairs towards the office one evening. Leon shakes his head as he grabs my hand to stop me, eyes pleading since it's a dangerous task. If we get caught we could lose our jobs, and maybe even get arrested. It could blow up our whole operation, but if we don't do this we'll never be true cops, protecting the city from criminals like Irons.

"We've got no choice Leon." I softly reply as I peel my hand away from his and grab the makeshift lockpick from my uniform. His lips purse together as his eyes dart behind him, the RPD's corridors are always long and empty, which means you can hear footsteps from nearly the other side of the building, but they always sound closer than they are. By the time Leon looks back at me I'm already on my knees prying open the door to Irons' office. It takes a few attempts but once its unlocked the door swings open, revealing a posh looking room filled with various taxidermy animals. Leon's face falls as the danger settles on his shoulders, but he knows just as much as I do that one of us needs to take the leap.
