Burnt Breakfasts and Chewed Cards

I wake up with a smile, stretching my arms above my head I turn to find Leon leaning up on an elbow watching me with a grin, immediately his arm snakes around my waist, pulling me closer as his lips meet my own. "Happy anniversary, honey." He deeply says. I hum in delight, my hand running through his sleep tousled hair before making its way lower and lower. Leon smirks, ready for action until our dog suddenly nudges open our door with his snout, races across the carpet then jumps onto the bed, tail wagging and tongue already aiming for Leon's face. I giggle, scooting back as Leon pets our dog and tries to push him away to get to me, but the little pup is persistent in showing his love. I flop back down onto the bed, gently stroking his fur as I sigh, ready to start the day.

"Give me two minutes and I'll get up." I groan, but Leon slips out of bed as our dog almost trips him up. I watch him step over the excited canine, and shake his head at me.

"Stay there, I'm going to cook you breakfast in bed." He grins, then he leaves the room. I don't argue as I lie there, savouring the lie in. I hear Leon talk to our dog as if talking to a best friend, its followed by the pup's excited barks and something clattering in the kitchen. I smother a laugh as I lean up onto my elbow, watching the door and debating if I should go in and help, but then Leon comes back through the doorway carrying a bunch of flowers, some cut up fruit and a cup of coffee. He sets them on the side as I sit up, kissing him before things get heated once more. His hands roam me until we're rolling on the bed, laughing and kissing, then the shrill fire alarm beeps through the house, followed by the smell of smoke and burning pancakes.

"Leon? I think breakfast is burning." I giggle. He curses, untangling himself from my limbs as he rushes out faster than lightning. I get up, getting dressed and then heading into the kitchen to find the heart shaped pancakes black and the frying pan in the sink. Leon winces, stepping in front of the plate as if to hide it. I snort, pointing at the food. "Some say burnt food is an aphrodisiac." Leon curses once more at my teasing, pulling me to his chest as he sways us and tells me he loves me.

We exchange gifts after we eat some toast then Leon goes to pass me a card, until our mischievous pup jumps up and snatches the envelope from his hand and runs off with it. "No! Bad dog!" Leon shouts as my eyes widen and a giggle escapes my lips. Leon chases the dog around the kitchen in laps, but in the end he gives up, looking put out as he sits back down and apologises. "This day isn't going as I'd planned. At least we've got the reservation at Fiola tonight." He winks at me as I gasp and grab his hands.

"No, really?!" I grin, excited to finally dine at one of the most expensive restaurants in the city. We spend the day together until the evening rolls around after hours of waiting. I dress up in a cute dress I've been wanting to wear for ages, spending more time on my hair and makeup for the special occasion. Leon's lips part when he sees me, and I'm sure his eyes water as he links his fingers with my own and pulls me to him, kissing me deeply.

"You're so beautiful, it's unreal." He deeply murmurs between the kiss. I smile, palms resting over his white button up as I look up at the most handsome man I've ever laid eyes on.

"Shut up, I love you." I smile. Leon opts for taking the car instead of his bike, so we drive to the restaurant, but managing to get stuck in the busy Friday night  traffic. Leon grabs my thigh, thumb circling nervously as he tries to eventually find a parking space. We're in a rush so he ends up picking me up as we race down the street and to the restaurant since my heels would've slowed us down. I grip his shoulders, tugging my dress down and squeaking every second until we finally reach the posh doors. We're both panting, hair mussed and outfits crumpled as the waiters give us odd looks.

"Reservation for Kennedy?" Leon asks. I look around as Leon talks to the suited man, I observe the wooden furniture and smell the delicious meals, stomach growling until I realise Leon's tone is getting heated. He leans forwards, hands resting on the lectern until I tug his arm, confused at his demeanour.

"What's wrong?"

"They gave our table to someone else because we missed the check in time. We're not even late!" Leon frustratedly says. I frown, glaring at the innocent waiter as I tug Leon back outside where the sounds of the city greet us. Leon sighs, looking guilty. "I'm so sorry, I know you really wanted to eat here."

I purse my lips together, then shrug as I smile. "It's okay, it's just food. At this point I could devour a hot dog, come on, I'm starving." I softly say, taking his hand in mine as I drag him down the street. At first he's reluctant but eventually his arm loosens and then it finally swings as we stride down the streets dressed in our finest. We get a few odd looks but I don't care, I refuse to be deterred, we stop at a food vendor and Leon buys us hot dogs, we eat the messy food as we walk side by side and find a bench in the park to settle. It's comedic how we sit here scarfing down street food instead of five star meals, but honestly I'm having a great time. Leon and I talk as we eat, then he swipes my lip once done because of some sauce.

We link hands again and go back to the city streets, buying more foods and devouring each course as if it were risotto or posh desserts, we stop and watch as a street busker plays the guitar and sings. Leon grabs my waist playfully before spinning me. I gasp, blushing as he grins and sways us, dancing to the song. The busker cheers for us as Leon swiftly dances with me, more people join in until we're literally in the middle of a mini party. It's ridiculous, like something from a cheesy romantic movie, but it's one of those moments that I know I'll never forget. I look up, arms looked around Leon's neck as the stars glimmer down on us, the city lights shine and cars honk from the roads. "This is the best anniversary we've ever had." I murmur to Leon as he chuckles and we finally break away from the audience, heading back to the car.

"I think so too, I can't wait for our next one, and the thirty after that." He replies, snaking an arm around my shoulders as I lean into him.
