AN: Though I had a lovely person ask for an idea similar to this, this imagine isn't a request since I was already thinking of a similar idea at the same time. This imagine is loosely based on the story of RE6, where Leon and his partner (who's his wife in this one) both have to kill the zombiefied president, then run since the government thinks they've gone rogue (Derek Simmons set them up) and now the government and DSO are on the hunt for their heads whilst they gather evidence of their innocence.
---------------------------------------------------
My husband's ringed hand leaves mine as the president twitches and turns away from us, a coughing fit comes over him as I stand to the side and watch, my gun's holstered at my side but I can't bring myself to reach for it, not when I know the repercussions of this will be beyond terrible for us. "Sir?" I whisper as Leon reaches for the president of the United States, I know they've been friends for all the years Leon's known him, he's definetly got to be feeling the pressure and shock too. "We need to leave." I quickly say to Leon, it's the safest thing we can do if we want to escape the actions we may be forced to do, especially as the older man collapses onto his knees, his palms flat on the carpet as he wheezes from the swiftly spreading infection. Leon doesn't answer me, he stands back, but stops as if arguing with himself.
"We can help him. Just run down to-"
Out of nowhere the president springs up, flying at me with outstretched hands and milky, white eyes. He's gone, replaced by the infection as he craves my flesh. I let out a scream, stumbling back since I didn't anticipate the attack, I end up on my ass, arms holding up the older man as he gnashes at me like a feral dog. I shake, eyes wide as the president's saliva drips onto my cheek it's disgusting but I'm unable to move or fight him off. Leon calls my name, grabbing the president by the shoulders before lifting him up and throwing him across the room. I clamber to my feet, grabbing my gun as the president quickly recovers and turns back to us, his skin greenish and pallid. "No." Leon breathes out, disappointment and guilt wrapping around his words as he snatches my gun from me and aims it at the president. The older man stumbles, growling as he once more lunges for me, but Leon's quick to save my life and put an end to the president's eternal suffering. The body falls by our feet, both Leon and I pant heavily as we reel from the surprise and fear filling our bodies and minds.
The ringing of my phone disturbs the silence. I answer it with shaky hands, my palms slick with sweat as I wrestle to grip it. On the line is our Field Office Support and other good friend, Ingrid Hunnigan. "It's chaos there. Tell me what's going on?" She demands, the sound of clicking of computer keys fills the room as Leon and I share a look that speaks a thousand words. Leon clears his throat, taking the phone from me as he swallows deeply "I just shot the president." He says in a monotone voice. Hunnigan gasps, questions and threats already spilling from her mouth until I interrupt.
"He was already infected, there wasn't anything we could do."
We all take a moment to soak in the harsh reality, then thankfully Hunnigan begins to give us orders, telling us to escape Tall Oaks and find somewhere to lie low for a while whilst she finds out what she can and tries to prove our innocence, but Leon shakes his head, already looking apologetically to me. "I've got a lead, we're going to follow it and prove ourselves innocent, I want to get my hands on the bastard that did this. We'll be in touch." With that he hangs up as Hunnigan keeps talking. I let out a shaky sigh, leaning against the wall as Leon's hand gently wraps around my arm. "I didn't mean to put you in that position...it was my doing. I pulled the trigger, so if you want to go back-"
"No, I'm with you." I nod, leaning down I close the president's eyes and whisper a goodbye before standing and heading to the door, this time I don't hesitate to grab my gun. My husband follows, his presence lingers behind me like a shadow waiting to once again save me, but I'm capable of holding my own. Together we leave the office and head downstairs, where we stumble into the chaos that is Tall Oaks university- and then Tall Oaks town. We find survivors and lose them all in the space of two hours, we find ourselves in a cathedral before finding evidence that points to Derek Simmons, the National Security Advisor. To continue gathering evidence we're forced to fake our deaths and fly to China, where we find numerous labs and experiments, alongside the perpetrator himself.
