"So," Leon says as he cracks his knuckles and wiggles two fingers in a beckon, "are you ready for me to put you on your ass again? Honestly, I'm starting to lose count of how many times I've won." He gives me a smug smile, tilting his head as I blow out a breath and stand on shaky legs. I see Leon's face soften for a second in guilt, showing me that shy and sweet rookie I met almost six months ago, but then he quickly hides the vulnerability by raising his eyebrows as if to say 'really Y/N?'

I scoff, briefly glancing up at the darkening sky as a warm breeze blows some of my hair out of place. All around us, the sounds of nature remind me that we're far from home, well away from our old lives as we train to become government agents. I plant my feet in the field, the grass squashed down from mine and Leon's hours of sparring. We were actually meant to be resting today, but neither of us could resist spending time in the outdoors, and we soon got bored without our phones or entertainment. "You do realise that one of these days I'm going to win, right?" I retort playfully, lips tugging up as Leon chuckles, it's warm and heats every inch of me, making my head dizzy with joy. "I'll never let you live it down when I do." I add, getting into position as Leon smirks, stepping towards me as his figure gets darker with the rapidly disappearing daylight. I squint against the backdrop, heart racing as I await his attack.

"Obviously," Leon mumbles, eyes sparling mischievously, "but today isn't going to be it." With that he darts forwards with a speed he never used to have. I react quick, but not quick enough, he tries to trip me up, swiping his leg out, but I've learnt his moves by now, so in return I cling to him and throw my weight down, making him stumble as I try to swing him over my shoulder, but the man's heavy now he's packed on some muscle, and instead he just laughs, lifting his arm as I cling on like a boa constrictor, wrapping my limbs around him as he raises me up. I scowl at him when he raises my body to his eyelevel, but both of us end up snorting and bursting into a fit of contagious laughter. I wish I could hate how much of a quick learner he is, but instead I'm just impressed and proud. His easy going nature and kindness made it so nobody could hate him, not even our mentor, Jack Krauser. Sure the guy was an asshole and often verbally abused us when he felt like it, but at the same time he'd vouched for Leon to stay when everyone else wanted him kicked out of the training due to his inexperience. Leon's smug attitude, however, was fresh and not so likeable.

Leon sets me on my feet as I begin to taunt him, but then all of a sudden he once more sweeps my legs from under me in a fluid motion, and I yet again fall onto my ass. I slump in the grass, opting to lie down and wallow in my sorrows as Leon hovers over me, hands raised in a surrender as his knees rest either side of my hips. "I couldn't resist. That little look you just gave me was adorable though." He muses, my cheeks flush at the unintentional compliment, and once more I feel weightless and silly. I stare up at Leon, lips parted as his blue orbs rake me over, scanning me from head to toe as if admiring a piece of artwork, he soon remembers that he's checking me out though, and clears his throat as his cheeks redden. "What was it you were saying about winning?" He mumbles, giving me a half smile.

I groan, gently hitting my head on the grass. "Don't remind me. You're impossible to beat."

"Hey, don't feel too bad, you put up a decent fight."

I snort, "Jesus, please don't pity me." Leon climbs off of me, but not before tapping my nose with his finger before standing up and offering out a hand for me to grab. I do so, but in a sudden movement I grip him as hard as I can, tugging him towards me and wrapping my legs around him, I flip us until Leon's on his back, with me straddling him in the grass. His eyes widen as I fist bump the air, cheering at myself in glee. "Yes! I fucking got you!" I giggle, tilting my head back until I realise Leon's staring at me, eyes soft and lips in a warm smile.

"You did." He murmurs quietly, his tone almost affectionate. My breath catches as my own smile fades, leaving awe and nervous excitement in its wake. Leon licks his lips, hand lifting as he tucks my hair behind my ear, his palm lingers on my face, brushing my skin as his thumb traces my cheekbone then the hollow of my throat. A small noise escapes me as I instinctively lean forwards, chest pressing against his as my face hovers inches from his. Leon's eyes darken as his arm snakes around my back, keeping me in place as I shift and earn a low groan from him. Our breathing picks up, breaths mingling as something shifts in the air between us, the playful atmosphere long gone, now replaced with charged tension so thick I can hardly breathe. My heart pounds as Leon lifts his head, eyes closing as he intends to kiss me. I stare, waiting for him to make the first move-
