She just said husband.

Mum and i shared a surprised look. She heard what I heard.

"Are you both dumb?!" The woman yelled, making us flinch a bit.

"N-no, ma'am. I am sorry. There seems to be a misunderstanding." Mum stuttered.

The woman raised a brow.

"We are here to see Nicholas Adams." Mum said, still holding my hand tightly.

She is pressured.

So am I.

"Honey," A male voice called from up the stairs, taking our attention. Footsteps descended the stairs.

"What seems to be the problem? I heard you yelling?" The person said, coming into view.

It's a middle-aged man in a navy and gold designed blue robe.

My heart reacted at the possibility of him being my dad.

"You have some visitors from the slums." The woman said, making me look at her.

She is looking at us with clear irritation.

"Nick," my mum called, making me look at her. She is looking at the man and smiling a little.

She just called him Nick. That means...that means he is my father.

"What the hell?" He said, looking at my mum with surprise. His brows are arched in confusion.

"Honey," the woman called. "Do you know these people?"

My mum and, I can say, my dad are still staring at each other.

"Nicholas!" The woman snapped, making us jump.

"What the fuck is going on here?" She asked, now standing on her feet. She is furious and fuming.

"Uh....honey it's...." My dad stuttered weirdly as he descended the remaining stairs and walked towards her.

"It's nothing. Just someone I knew way back." Dad said to her.

I arched my brows a little. I looked at my mum. She is looking at my dad with hurt on her face.

"Nicholas, it is me, Claudia." Mum said.

I heard a scoff from the woman, making me look at her. She folded her arms.

"This is Rose." Mum said, placing her hand on my shoulder. "Your daughter."

I looked at my dad. His face twitched.

"What? Nicholas," the woman called, looking at dad questionably.

"What do you mean my daughter?" Dad asked, making my heart react.

"She is your child. Rose Adams. She is..."

"What? She gave her your last name, Nicholas," The woman confronted him.

Dad opened his mouth to speak but he couldn't say anything.

"Nick, she is yours. She is seventeen." Mum said.

Dad's face twitched.

I found myself holding my mum's hand nervously. The way my dad is looking at me is not pleasant.

"Nicholas, what is this thing from the slums talking about?' the woman asked, staring at my mother maliciously.

She seems to be trouble.

"Is this true, Nicholas?!" The woman asked angrily.

"No it is not!" Dad blurted, looking at mum with all seriousness.
