Luther and Seline moved first, followed by CJ and Jane. Rose was still struggling to get on Matt's shoulder.
And so is Leila and Chris.
Others moved as well.
Rose finally got on Matt's shoulders and he moved.
"You are such a loser, Chris!" Leila yelled, hitting Chris' shoulders.
"I am sorry," Chris said, looking pathetic.
Coach Felix chuckled.
"Leila, stop!" Ms Williams yelled.
"Urgh!" Leila groaned, walking away.
Chris stood up, staring at Leila as she walked away.
Ms Williams heaved a smile as she looked at Coach Felix.
He held down his laughter.
"That was hilarious." Coach Felix said, making Ms William scoff in disbelief.
"We are doing great, guys!" Coach Felix said loudly, clapping his hands.
The students walked carefully in avoidance of breaking the rules of the game.
Rose braced herself and managed to hold her breath as Matt walked faster. He walked past Zach and Seline, then Luther and Barbara. He walked past a lot of people, making Rose smile as they approached the finishing line.
But they just have to walk past CJ and Jane.
But CJ was fast. The gap between them was insane.
"Hurry, Matt," Rose urged.
CJ heard Rose's familiar voice and he increased his steps.
They walked and walked till CJ got to the finishing line before Matt could.
Ms Park blew the whistle.
"We have our winner, CJ and Jane!" Ms Park announced, clapping her hands. Ms Williams and the coach joined in and clapped as well.
The guys were all panting. Some sat on the ground and some were standing.
"Well, what do you know? I picked the best athlete after all." Jane said proudly, making Rose look at her.
Her eyes moved to CJ.
He is seated on the ground. His eyes locked with hers but she averted her eyes from him.
Rose is among those standing and Matt is seated on the ground, still panting. She looked at Matt.
"I am sorry we didn't win." Matt said.
Rose shook her head. "No, don't be. We did good. You did good. Thanks to you we came second. I think there is a point for that."
Matt chuckled. "Yeah, I guess so."
"Yeah, I am proud you." Rose said, smiling at him.
CJ's blood boiled hearing Rose say that.
"Proud of us." Matt said.
CJ scoffed. "You are a loser, Matt. Second place are for losers. You hear me?" CJ asked and walked away angrily.
"CJ," Jane called, following him behind.
Matt heaved a sigh.
"What's his problem?" Rose asked, staring at them as they walked.
Rose shook her head and looked at Matt as Seline walked towards them.
"I think he likes you, Rose." Seline said.
Matt's face twitched.
"What?" Rose asked, feeling her heart racing.
