Chapter 36

"Welcome, to Starville beauty queens cheerleading team!" I heard Leila's loud voice as Joey and I walked into the basketball arena.

We walked towards the spot where some other girls are seated. My heart is literally pounding but Joey is my courage.

I am not auditing. I will just sit down and watch. That's it.

"Thank you all for coming!" Leila said as Joey and I sat close to others.

There is a long desk in the court and Leila is seated in the middle and other girls are seated on the other seats.

There is a banner right above their heads that has the wards, Beauty Queens Cheerleading Team written on it.

"This is so exciting." Joey squealed a little. I smiled nervously.

"Those who wishes to audition, please queue up." One of the girls said.

Most of the people seated stood on their feet and walked towards the court. They formed a long queue.

"Alright. Wish me luck." Joey said, standing on his feet as well.

"Good luck." I said as he walked towards the queue and joined them.

I let out a breath as I noticed how little we are seated on the seats. We are not even up to six. Everyone actually came to audition.

"Rose," Leila called.

My nervousness increased.

"Aren't you going to audition?" She asked, smiling.

"No, I can't dance." I said, making everyone laugh.

I dropped my gaze.

"Quiet, please." She said to them.

"Come on, Rose." She called, making me look at her.

"We will teach you. I didn't know how to dance when I did my first audition but here I am now. I am the leader of the team." She said, smiling.

"I told her the same thing." Joey said.

"See? Even your friend knows how these things works." Leila said, making me look at Joey.

He is smiling at me.

"You know what, what's your name?" Leila asked him.

"Joey."

"For being supportive of this team, no need to audition. You are in." Leila said, surprising me.

"What?!" Joey squealed. "Really?!"

"Yes. Welcome to beauty queens." Leila said, extending a pink ribbon to him.

"Oh my God!" Joey squealed happily as I walked out of the queue and walked towards the desk. He collected the ribbon from her.

"Thank you so much! This feels awesome!" Joey squealed happily. He waved the ribbon happily at me.

My heart melted. I am happy that he is happy.

"Come on, Rose." Leila said, smiling at me.

"Yes, girlfriend. You can do this." Joey said.

I inhaled and exhaled before standing on my feet.

"Cheer on, cheerleaders!" Leila said, clapping her hands and everyone joined, clapping their hands as I approached the queue.

"Yeah! Rosy!" Joey squealed, clapping as well.

I stood at the back of the long queue.

"Everyone move aside please. I want her to perform first." Leila said, making my heart drop.
