Baby Shower

Chapter 26
*Meredith POV*

Maggie and April came over to hang out with Amelia and I, because we aren't on-call. Callie and Arizona are stuck in surgery so they're not here. Every now and then all of us usually come to my place and hang out on our nights off because we need social interaction.

"Meredith, we're throwing you a baby shower. It's not a question, we're not discussing." Maggie laughs and tells me.

"But what if I don't want one?" I say.

"Mer, this is non-negotiable." She says again.

I guess I can't really say no to it.

We all sit on the couch talking about the details of the party.

Zola and Sophia are having a sleepover because it's a Friday night.

"I got a text from Arizona saying their needs to be a onesie decorating station." April says.

"Well, you all are the party planners not me." I laugh.

"So where will it be?" I ask

They all kind of look around, "Well, why not here?" Amelia says.

I guess that's okay. It was here the last time.

Zola and Sophia walk out of her room, "Zo-Zo why aren't you two asleep?" I ask.

"We're playing hide and seek." Zola tells me.

"Okay, don't get hurt." I tell them.

We continue making plans for baby shower. Even though I would rather be on another topic.

April mentions that she and Jackson have thought about trying to have another baby, but they're not ready yet.

"When will the baby shower be?" I ask them.

"How about next Saturday?" April suggests.

"That can work." I say.

Derek walks in and sees all of us on the couch, "Oh sorry ladies, didn't mean to interrupt." He walks into our room and then says, "Meredith why is Zola in our bath tub?"

Next thing we hear is Sophia running and saying "Found you!"

*Day of Baby Shower*

All I want to do is sleep. It's 8 AM. The baby shower is at noon. And there are people in my living room setting up for the party.

"Who's at our house?" I ask Derek.

"Let's see, Maggie spent the night because you two were up till all hours watching surgery tapes. Amelia lives with us. Sophia and Zola had a sleepover. And Callie and Arizona got here 10 minute ago." Derek and I both laugh.

"So can I go back to sleep?" I ask Derek.

"Well, there are people in our living room setting up for your baby shower. Maybe you should go help." Derek laughs.

So I get out of bed but I don't really want to. I throw on the decent clothes and brush through my hair.

Derek walks up behind me and puts his arms around me and holds me. I laugh a little, then I realize I'm really hungry. "Hey Derek, I have an amazing idea."

"What is this amazing idea you have?" He asks.

"You making me breakfast!" I laugh.

"In the fridge, there's a big plate with eggs, pancakes, sausage, and bacon. Heat it up."

"Best husband ever." I tell him. I love him so much. Ooh I also love food.

I drink orange juice and eat my breakfast and Arizona walks up to me and says, "So there will be a onesie decorating station right? Because last time I had this perfect idea for one." She says cheerfully.

"Yes I think there is a onesie decorating station this time." I laugh.

Time flies by and everything is getting set up perfectly. Best part is I haven't really had to do much.

I hear a knock at my door and it's Bailey, "So from what I'm told the baby shower is here, at this time."

"Yes, yes come on in." I say.

Everyone here is making small talk and it begins to thunderstorm pretty hard.

Amelia made some really awesome finger food snacks, I start to eating them as more people show up.

Most everyone has gotten here and there's a huge pile of gifts and everyone seems to be having a good time. I mean if I had a choice we'd be sitting on the couch watching movies with food. But oh well.

The shower goes on for another hour or so. We've done some of the cliché baby shower stuff. I've opened all the gifts and they were all pretty nice. The storm outside is getting really bad. Some people have already headed home because they want to beat the storm before it gets too bad.

My body aches so I sit down in the couch just to rest. Arizona walks up and shows me her onesie decoration. It's a star and moon and it says "Baby McDreamy".

"Wow, that's adorable. Thank you, Arizona." I say. It is really cute.

Suddenly, everything goes dark.

The power went out. I'm assuming because of the storm something with a telephone pole got screwed up.

It's like creepy dark, Zola is sitting next to me and she grabs my arm for safety.

"Derek?" I call out.

"Right here, Meredith." He says from what I'm guessing is across the room. He pulls out his phone light and grabs some candles.

More guests begin to head out because there's no electricity.

Alex & Jo, Jackson & April, Callie & Arizona, and Maggie are the only ones still here.

We have candles lit everywhere and flashlights. We all basically sit in some sort of circle like formation around the couch. Zola in between Derek and I. Derek is holding Bailey.

We're laughing and joking and having a really great time. And I can't help but smile because for the first time in a long time I feel like everything is okay. No ones dying. No ones hurt. Everything is perfectly okay.
