Chapter 70
*Meredith POV*

Life is a test of patience. How much can you take before you break? Before you give up? Before you say 'This is it, I'm done'? It's in this test of patience that you learn the most about yourself.

Sunlight breaks through my window and I open my eyes. I'M LATE!

I should have woken up an hour ago! I walk into the kitchen and Derek is wrangling up the kids, "Derek! I'm going to be late! Why didn't you wake me up?"

"Your phone rang this morning, I answered, surgery was pushed back cause Torres got a case in the middle of the night, needed the OR." He says as he smiles and kisses me grabbing his morning coffee.

"Oh, okay. Well I still need to go to work, so are we going to ride in together or separate." I ask him since he appears to be on his way out the door.

"Separate, I'm getting off before you so I figured I'll take the kids home, and make dinner and it'll be ready for you when you get home." He tells me.

It's the little things. The thoughtful things like that that make my heart swell. "This is why I love you."

He takes the kids and is on his way, I get a few moments of peace and quiet in the house. It's refreshing, but there's no way I'd want my life like this. I stare at the drawings on the the refrigerator that Zola makes, the toys sprawled across the house. This is it. This is why I love my life.

I get to work and my day begins with Wilson on my service. "First day back?" I ask.

"Yes ma'am" she says with a cheery little smile.

"It's gonna be a long one, I'll tell you that." We don't have any complicated surgeries unless and emergent one enters the Pitt, but working while 37 weeks pregnant will drain everything out of you.

"Oh? I thought we only had an appy, and 2 biopsies; I could do both of those in my sleep." She laughs a little bit.

"The surgeries aren't what's long, the long part is standing in an OR while you carry a 37 week old fetus." I laugh back.

We start rounds and our first surgery is an appendectomy. They're quick and easy. We are about to scrub for the appy and I'm going to let her take the lead.

Before we walk into the scrub room, I get a page. 911 in the Pitt.

I page Bailey to take my surgery.

We speed walk to the Pitt, "If you need to sit down you can take a quick break."

"I like doing things the hard way" she laughs.

"Explains why you married Alex Karev" I jab at her and we both laugh.

We get to the Trauma Room, "26 year old Alexandra Powers, jogging when a distracted driver going about 30 mph hit her in an intersection." Owen fills us in.

Maggie is checking out her vitals, "I need to get an ultrasound of her heart to check for a tamponade."

Amelia cuts in and says, "we need to get her to CT ASAP. She was hit by a car."

"Alexandra? I'm Dr. Kepner, can you here me?" April asks.

Jackson walks into the trauma room, "Had drop the twins off at day car, I hear we got road rash?"
