Chapter 33
*Derek POV*

When you have a major surgery, one of the most important parts of your recovery is rest. No one wants to lie in a hospital bed, all day everyday for an uncertain amount of time. But whether you like it or not, your body needs it.

I sit my Meredith's bedside, it's about 2 AM. She's still asleep from the surgery. She lost a lot of blood. But she's going to be okay. Ellis is back in the nursery, I should probably go get her before Meredith wakes up.

Christina took Zola and Bailey home. Zola is in love with her new sister. Bailey doesn't even know what's going on.

Alex and Maggie are both asleep in here. I rest my head by Meredith's arm and fall asleep.

*Meredith POV*

Am I dead? I feel like I'm dead. I don't want to open my eyes and realize I'm dead.

Wait what about Ellis? I open my eyes quickly and I process everything. I'm in recovery, Alex and Maggie are dead asleep. A weight is lifted off of me when I see Derek right beside me.

"Derek. Derek." I whisper trying to wake him up.

He must be exhausted, but I am the one who almost died. Oh God...I almost died. I almost left him alone with our kids.

I want him awake so I nudge him. He wakes up quickly and alert.

"Meredith, you're awake. You're awake." He sighs in relief.

"Where is she?? Where's Ellis?" I ask quickly. No, no, she can't be dead. I didn't lose her, did I?

Derek see's the fear in my eyes quickly, "Meredith, calm down. She's okay. She's okay. She's in the nursery. I'll go get her. She's beautiful." He smiles.

Alex wakes up and offers to bring her here. He's back in a few minutes. When he rolls her through the door, my heart beats a little faster. I fall in love with her instantly. I get to hold her for the first time.

"Hi baby, hi. I'm your mommy." I say playfully.

She opens her eyes and she has Derek's eyes. "Derek she has your eyes." I say as a tear escapes from me. "She's beautiful. She's perfect."

Maggie wakes up hearing everyone talking. "Oh thank God, you're awake. You are never allowed to almost die on us ever again." She says.

Alex laughs. "Dude, she's been in a bombing, drowning, shooting, plane crash, splenic rupture, and now placental abruption. Death and Meredith are friends."

Maggie is sort of horrified by how much danger I've been in but I laugh it off.

"Christina will be here in a few hours with Zola and Bailey." Derek tells me.

Arizona walks in to come check on me. "So when do I get go home? Like tomorrow?" I ask her.

"Oh there's no way in hell you're leaving this place in the next 48 hours. You died on that table. For like a few minutes you were dead. I yelled at you to make your heart start beating again. So you're going to sit in that bed, hold your beautiful daughter, and rest." She tells me in her angry/cheerful Arizona voice.

"Okay, okay. I won't almost die anymore." I say.

"Meredith you should get some rest." Derek tells me.

"No...all I want to do is hold her." I say staring at Ellis.

"You have an entire lifetime to hold her and hug her." He says.

"No I don't. I have like 12 years before she grows up and doesn't want to hang out with me anymore." I tell Derek.

He laughs, "You need to rest. Then you can hold her more. When you wake up , Zola, Bailey, and Ellis will all be here."

I guess he's right. My incision sight is killing me. I see Maggie her before I go to sleep. "Who's the best Goddaughter in the whole wide world?" She says.

Maggie loves her new niece. I hope Bailey loves his new sister, I know Zola does. Derek rests his head by arm. We both fall asleep.

*Zola POV*

I am supposed to be sleeping. But I can't sleep. My little sister was born last night. I got to see her once. Daddy is still in the hospital with Mommy. I heard someone say, "Dr. Grey flatlined on Arizona's OR".

People at the hospital call my mommy Dr. Grey. They call my daddy Dr. Shepherd. But some of them call him McDreamy.

I want to see mommy. I go to find aunt Christina. She was sleeping in mommy and daddy's room.

I open the door and she wakes up. "Oh hey Zo-Zo. Why aren't you sleeping?" She asks me.

"I heard someone say 'Dr. Grey flatlined on Arizona's table.' Mommy told me flatlining is bad."

"Oh, your mommy is okay. See, what happened is her heart wasn't beat-"

"Mommy's heart stopped?!?" I ask. My mommy is dead. I start to cry.

"No no, Zola your mommy is alive." I hear her say.

That doesn't make me stop crying.

Aunt Christina picks Bailey up and holds my hand and takes us to the car.

"Where are we going?" I ask...still crying.

"To show you mommy isn't dead." She says.

I sleep in the car.

Aunt Christina takes us to a room where I see daddy. He's asleep. Mommy is next to him. I think she's dead.

"Daddy!"

"Zola what are you doing here? Yang it's 5:34 AM, why did you bring my kids here?" Daddy says.

"Because someone can't shut their mouth in front of your daughter, and now she is fully convinced Meredith is dead. And she was crying and wouldn't stop." Aunt Christina says.

Aunt Maggie and Uncle Alex laugh.

Mommy wakes up. "Mommy you're alive!"

"Yes, Zo-Zo. Why wouldn't I be alive?"

"Someone said 'Dr. Grey flatlined on Arizona's table.' Then Aunt Christina said your heart stopped." She looks at aunt Christina with a funny look, they look like they're talking but with no sound.

"Well, Zola, mommy is alive. Come lay down with me and we can both get some rest." So I climb onto the bed with mommy.

I snuggle up next to mommy and go to sleep.

*Derek POV*

There's no point in sleeping anymore. It's been a rough day. It's kind of adorable Zola making Christina drag her to the hospital to check on Meredith. I still want to know who said Mer flatlined in front of her kids. But that's a battle for another day. Now it's time to just sit back and rest.

Rest is a huge part of recovery. And sometimes it's even the hardest. It's hard to sit down and not do anything, when there's so much to be done. Sometimes it's the easiest part. Just to let go, take a breathe, remember everything's going to be okay.

Author Note:

So that chapter was a roller coaster. I just sort of started making stuff up as I went along and, at least in my opinion, it turned out pretty good. I hope y'all like this chapter.
Also, also, also!! I have a HUGE question! So most of you know a few chapters ago, April announced she is pregnant. I don't know what I want the gender to be, so give me some ideas.
