Chapter 42
*Meredith POV*

We see people everyday of our lives. Sometimes we meet new people. People who we know absolutely nothing about besides their medical records and we try like hell to save their lives. Sometimes we meet people who we knew in a totally different lifetime...like intern year.

Amelia and Owen just got back from their honeymoon. The wedding was 10 days ago. I'm just happy all the relatives are gone. Derek's mom left later than the rest of them but I like her, she's like the mom I never had.

I've been on call all night. One of my patients needs to be monitored and well, I don't trust an intern or resident to do it. My patient was ran over by a motorcycle. We had to do damage control in the OR.

I get paged to the ER for a guy trampled by a horse. I head down there but I tell a nurse to page me with updates on my motorcycle guy.

The paramedics unload the horse trampled guy and say, "Dr. Finn Dandrigde, age 39, veterinarian trampled by a horse. Obvious abdominal crush injuries with possible head contusion and broken wrist."

Oh my God. Finn, McVet is back. I didn't think I'd ever see him again after the day I had the appendectomy intern year and I told him I picked Derek.

"Take him to trauma 1, page Ortho and nuero" Owen announces.

We take the gurney into trauma 1. I don't know if he remembers me...well I'm sure he does but that might not be his first thought after being ran over by his horse.

"Sir, I'm Dr. Hunt, I'm a trauma surgeon. Can you tell me where your pain is?" Owen asks.

"My head and stomach and wrist hurt a lot." Finn chokes out.

"I'm Dr. Grey I'm gonna take a quick listen to your breathing and your heart." I say to him, it sounds like he has a punctured lung.

He grabs my arm, he smiles and says. "Meredith? Remember me?"

I smile a little bit. "Remember me."

"How could I forget you." He responds.

I snap out of it and re focus again. "Page cardio, I think he has a punctured lung." I say.

Callie and Derek and Maggie walk in simultaneously.

"Dandrigde?" Derek says once he sees the patient.

Callie laughs a little bit, "Wait, wait wait....McVet?"

"That was my nickname?" Finn says.

"You all know each other?" Maggie asks.

"Yeah, Meredith and I dated a while ago. And she dumped me for Derek." Finn says.

"I was an intern." I say.

He had a lot of bleeding in his belly. We get him a head CT. No brain bleed but just a contusion. Callie and Wilson are going to fix his wrist after I'm done with the bleed and Maggie is done with the lung.

When we get out he says, "Can you call my fiancé? She's a nurse. Her name is Rose."

"Yeah, of course." I tell him.

"She dated Derek." He laughs a little bit.

We get him up to surgery. Owen and Maggie are working on the lung together.

The bleeding is coming from his liver. I don't think he's going to be able to keep it in the condition that it is in.

"He's going to need a liver transplant." I say as I look at Maggie and Owen.

"Call UNOS. Tell them our guy will not make it off the table with out a liver." I say.

I don't want Finn to die. He might be my ex boyfriend but he's still a great person. And now-a-days, there's not that many great people around any more. Plus he's the guy that brings your roommate food when their fiancé drops dead.

"Dr. Grey your motorcycle patient is coding." The nurse tells me.

"Crap. Crap. Page Bailey or Webber tell them to take over that patient." I say.

Time passes. Maggie and Owen fix the lung.

"Any word from UNOS?" I ask.

"Noth-" she begins to say right as the phone rings. She runs over to put it up to me ear.

They ask if this is Dr. Grey. I say yes.

"We have organs!" I say as I get off the phone. The donor was luckily at GSM.

Not very long later, Webber walks in with the liver. I perform the transplant and Finn's body seems to be not rejecting it so that's great.

I head to the lounge after surgery just to rest. I see April and Jackson. Jackson laughs a little, "You dated a vet?"

"I was an intern, and you dated my sister." I say.

We talk a little longer until Jackson gets paged for a surgery. "How are your babies doing in their?" I ask April.

"Oh they're doing great, they never stop kicking." She says with a smile.

"Been there, done that." I laugh.

I get paged because Finn woke up. And I have to tell him we had to give him a transplant.

I walk to his room and pass Alex and he says "Heard McVet is back."

I walk into Finn's room to give him and exam. "So I was told I had a liver transplant?" He asks.

"Yes, there was no way the state your liver was in you would have survived." I tell him. Rose isn't here...yet at least.

"So how have you been?" He asks.

"Well, Derek and I are married and we have 2 daughters, Zola and Ellis, and a son, Bailey." tell him. "And you?"

"That's great, you've changed a lot since we last saw each other. But I've been doing good too. I met Rose and we're getting married in 2 months."

"That's good, I'm happy for you." I say as I leave the room. Thankfully it was as awkward as I thought it would be. Aside from the 5 minute catch-up I went over with him everything about what he has to do now with a transplant.

I pick up the kids from daycare and head home. I've been standing all day in that OR so my feet are killing me. But I love surgeries that make my feet hurt.

Amelia is officially moved out but she helped me make dinner tonight because Owen is on call and she knows with me cooking the kids would just starve.

Derek gets home later. I stole one of his t-shirts to wear to bed. I like wearing his t-shirts. Big t-shirts and panties is my code for sex.

He walks in the room and I walk out of the bathroom. "So how's McVet?" He asks. 

I don't respond and I wait for him to notice. He looks at me then smiles. And the next thing I know, I'm against the wall and we're kissing only stopping to come up for air.

Re-meeting the people we once knew, is almost like meeting a whole new person. It reminds you of how much people change, but the things people do together never change.

I decided I wanted to see Finn again. So I wrote him in a chapter. I hope y'all like it! Sorry it took so long to update, I was really busy this weekend. Also, also, also *Spoiler alert*: crazy stuff is going to be revealed in the next update.
