Light in the Darkness

Chapter 72
*Meredith POV*

The tunnel is dark, but there is always a light at the end of it. In the dark, we meet our fears, we meet the unknown. But in the dark, we will always meet the light as well.

Owen calls the police. And we have an emergency board meeting. All of us unanimously decide to put the hospital on lock down. The 3 ambulances that were set to arrive before the call are allowed in. But nothing else will be allowed.

"We need to evacuate non-emergent patients right now," Derek suggests.

"We can't do anything until we get word from the police" Owen says.

*Jo POV*

I try and sleep but I can't. The more I lay here the more painful the contractions are.

Alex walks back into the room and I know something is up again, I don't have the energy to fight him to information.

The pain is almost unbearable, he gives me his hand to squeeze. "Alex, this really really hurts." I cry to him.

"Jo, you are the strongest woman I know. This is going to be the best day of our lives. Trust me." Alex tells me. He kisses me on the forehead.

"Give me an update on what's going on" I ask him.

He looks me in the eye. He doesn't want to tell me. "There's been a threat to the hospital. The police are here. They're getting everything under control. There's a chance it was unrelated to the terror attack and that it was just a prank. But we don't know anything at the moment."

I don't know how to respond. I don't know what to do. What do I do? I need to keep her safe. I can't do that here.

"Alex we need to go. Cmon' let's go, we can't stay here. Not with her about to be born. It's too dangerous." I tell him panicking.

"Jo we can't leave. I tried. I tried to see what we could do to get transported. You're too close to giving birth, if something were to be wrong with the baby we wouldn't have the resources. We're safer here than we are transporting." He tells me.

"So we're stuck. Like sitting ducks?" I ask.

"Yes." He tells me.

"I'll be right back I'm going to go see where they're at with everything." He follows up.

He's about to walk out the door but I'm too scared to be alone. "Wait Alex. Please stay. I don't want to be here alone."

He turns around, and comes back to me. I don't know if him walking out that door would've been the last time I see him. "I won't go anywhere. I'm staying right here." He tells me.

*Meredith POV*

The police are here. They are tracking down the number that called the ER phone. That way they can locate it and arrest whoever called in the threat.

I page back and forth. I'm trying to find some light in all this darkness.

"Derek, I think we need to get the kids out of here." I whisper.

"Let's just wait and see the police say. It could be nothing at all. It could be just a prank." He whispers back.

"Anyone know how Alex & Jo are?" Maggie asks.
