Ruler of All Realms Pt. 1

THE SUN ROSE over the Clover Kingdom, slowly rising to conquer the gargantuan World Tree that was towering over the entire Royal Capital. On top of it was a palace, and standing on its balcony was the 29th Wizard King—William Vangeance.

He stretched his arm in the air, breathing in the cool morning breeze. It was colder living high up in the sky, and he couldn’t bring himself to admit that he still missed the warmth of his small bedroom back at the Golden Dawn headquarters. It had been four years since he became the Wizard King, and it was as if he still hadn’t got used to this new life.

With the power of the Yggdrasil connecting to every tree in the kingdom, he could see the state of each one as if they were the extension of his sight. The leaves were luscious; bright green and no sign of yellow or decay. Their barks stood strong and mighty, and William could hear the trees singing with the wind—of comfort and peace.

He felt the roots of the Yggdrasil stretch beneath his feet as the green glow of the World Tree faded, a symbol that the night had fully ended.

“Good morning, King William,” Sylvanus said in his mind with a low voice, stifling a yawn as if he had just woken up too.

“Good morning, Sylvanus,” he responded, smiling as he touched one of the branches near him, feeling Sylvanus’s mana within the World Tree. “How’s the kingdom today?”

“Just like any other. Prosperous.” he replied.

William’s smile widened as he tapped the ground of the balcony with his boot, and as the Yggdrasil reacted to his magic, ripples of green flowed from the top of the tree down to its roots and expanded throughout the entire kingdom in the form of ley lines. He looked behind him, beyond his desk was a large tapestry, a map of the entire Clover Kingdom with green lines like the ley lines he had just seen, the land and even root systems beneath the earth. The map was a live version of the kingdom, making it more convenient for him to monitor its state while staying on Yggdrasil.

He looked up at the sky, where the barrier of the World Tree Sanctuary covered the kingdom like a veil, squinting his eyes to see the mana surging upwards and downwards. The spell enabled the barrier to draw mana from the earth to reinforce the barrier while also returning it to the earth at an incredible speed.

He could feel the Sanctuary humming beneath the ground. In the distant lands, he could see farmers sowing their crops which grew fuller. Reports from the citizens also showed that famine no longer struck their land due to the abundant mana. The most grateful of them all were the peasants of the border villages like Barlow, Hage, Saussy, Arandom, and many more, as only scraps of mana only reached them until now. They were fortified because of the Yggdrasil’s roots.

Did that make him proud of himself? Yes.

Did that make him the great hero of the kingdom? No.

He was just doing what he was meant to be doing as the Wizard King.

Rapid knocks thudded lightly on the door. Alecdora called from outside, and William answered. The Wizard King attendant looked more regal than ever, with his green hair slicked back neatly, wearing a formal yet elegant uniform made of fine wool and silk-blended linen the color of a forest and accented with delicate patterns of golden embroidery. His coat was fastened with golden clasps and buttons, and an insignia was embroidered on his left chest with the symbol of the Clover Kingdom.

“You’re early, Alecdora,” William remarked, tilting his head. “You have never been late, not once in these four years. Are you sure you’re not getting tired?”
