Ruler of All Realms Pt. 5
THE CAPTAINS dispersed as soon as the briefing ended. Solene hurried towards the door, beckoning Yuno to leave immediately as if she wanted to be anywhere else but here as quickly as possible. William shouldn't be bothered about this, but he didn't realize he had called her already and she was standing by the door, looking at him as if he was a nuisance to her.
“Is there something you need from me, Wizard King?” She asked, and there was nothing else layered in her tone even if he tried to find it. It was just one, genuine, yet something he despised, question.
He shook his head. This wasn’t the right time to talk to her. Not with Yuno still here.
“Nothing. You can go,” he said, watching her walk away from him again. Yuno tried to follow suit behind her, but William stopped him.
“But I have something I need from you,” he told him, trying to get his voice to sound authoritative, yet Yuno only gave him an exhausted sigh.
“You could’ve just asked her,” Yuno said.
“I can’t. It would make me look desperate, and I cannot have her way. I know she still loves me, but I just can’t prove it.”
Yuno mentally face palmed himself from whatever conflict these two had. These guys… in the middle of a war uprising…
“Well? What do you want to ask me, my Lord?” He asked.
William looked at the open pathway where she disappeared. “Where is she going? She seems in a hurry.”
“I have just relocated her patrol duty from Zargos to the Hage outpost. I believe that if the Forsythes are coming from the strong magic regions, the poison might spread towards the nearest forests, and my hometown is one of them. I’m sending her with Langris right now. I figured that they’d work together best given that they’ve been with each other for many years—”
“What did you just say? Langris?” His brows creased. “Are you telling me that Langris had been with her all this time and I didn’t know?” He didn’t mean to raise his voice at the last sentence, but he couldn’t help but feel… shocked? Flabbergasted? Jealous?
You’re not jealous. He told himself. Why would you be jealous of your former Vice Captain?
Yuno shrugged. “I don’t really know the full details, but anyone could notice it if you’re close to them. Solene returned to the squad two days after Langris returned, and they were with Sophia as well. You can ask the two if you want to know more. I just think there is something going on with them, or it’s just me. Langris has been very different since he came back, and he always stuck around Solene. It shows to me he has a soft side for her.”
William scoffed. The World Tree shook a bit in response to his emotions. He had to calm himself before he sent a kingdom-wide earthquake in the entire kingdom just because Solene had been with someone else all those years when he tried to find her, nearly succumbing to madness at the reality of living without her, and then she came back, acting like they didn’t become lovers at all.
He couldn’t even begin to imagine what happened between them in those four years. Does Solene love Langris now? It couldn’t be, right? It was Langris for God’s sake! How could she fall in love with that guy over him? Was he that easy to replace?
The council room shook, the chandelier above swinging slightly. Yuno looked around, noticing it.
They didn’t even fit each other at all! Solene would just look like an older sister, heck, a mother to him!
