Katsuki carefully entered the bedroom Eri was in. Her eyes lit up when she saw him, and she ran over, her small hand clutching his.
"Are we going now?" she asked, her voice filled with a quiet curiosity.
Katsuki smiled, brushing a gloved hand over her cheek. "Yeah, we're going soon"
He grabbed his spare suit and took over the bathroom to shower. While rinsing out his hair, he sighed. Eri deserved better than this.
He'd already decided, however, on their destination. The backstreets had the best merchandise, both legally and illegally. Most of the items and creatures tended to lean towards the latter of the two.
He dried himself off with a black towel. Teskai had changed all of the towels to black not long after Katsuki had arrived. Something about bleach prices, lemon shortages, and seltzer water's uselessness.
Suiting up was his favorite thing in the world. It felt so freeing, so safe.
When he stepped out of the bathroom, he began re-strapping his weapons onto his body. Knives, swords, and guns. Perhaps the occasional smoke bomb but that wasn't really in high priority.
As they left the apartment, Katsuki kept a watchful eye on their surroundings. The journey to the black market wasn't too dangerous, but he couldn't afford to be careless. Deadpool or not, bring Eri with him meant he had someone to protect. He navigated through the winding streets, avoiding the more populated areas to keep a low profile.
When they finally arrived at the 'entrance' to the underworld, Eri's eyes widened in awe at the bustling, underground world before her. Stalls lined the narrow roads, filled with strange and exotic items, each one more intriguing than the last.
"Stay close to me" Katsuki instructed, holding her hand firmly. "We'll find something cool for you"
They weaved through the crowd, the air thick with the scent of spices and the hum of hushed conversations. Eri's gaze darted from one stall to another, her curiosity piqued by the array of items on display. When the crowding became too dense, Katsuki simply paused to pick her up. Being Deadpool made things easy.
Katsuki stopped at a stall selling unique trinkets and charms, his eyes scanning the merchandise. "See anything you like?" he asked, crouching down to Eri's level.
Eri's eyes sparkled as she looked at the assortment of items. She hesitated for a moment before pointing to a ring. It was obviously too big for her. "Teskai" She whispered to him. "I wanna give him something too"
He melted at the request. It wasn't too expensive, considering where they were, so he was easily able to purchase it and hand it to her.
At a nearby stall, Katsuki picked up a crown and examined it closely. It was a delicate piece, with an intricate design that seemed to shimmer in the dim light.
"It's made from a rare metal called orichalcum" Murmured the seller. Their face was covered, but Katsuki knew from the tone that they were trying to please him.
Deadpool wasn't to be angered.
The crown itself shimmered with colors of reds, golds, and whites. It was a beautiful rose gold. Its surface seemed to glow softly, reflecting light in beautiful patterns.
It was adorned with gems of ruby and opal. The band of the crown was a delicate, lace-like pattern. At the center of the crown, a large ruby shone brightly.
It looked a bit worn, probably taken off of a museum stand somewhere.
"Good choice," the vendor said, accepting the cash offered. "It's from Atlantis"
Katsuki rolled his eyes, ignoring the comment. Even if Atlantis had been real, who would've had the guts to steal this?
He placed the crown on Eri's head. It fit perfectly, as if it really were made for a child. He'd always had an eye for these things.
As they made their way back through the market, Katsuki couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment. If ndwas able to bring a bit of happiness into Eri's life, a small moment of normalcy in their otherwise chaotic existence.
And if he'd stopped to buy some exotic, candied things to force Teskai to eat, he'd never tell.
「It was a few days before the candy was finally put to use. Katsuki had mixed them into a bowl of regular candies. Teskai's reaction upon eating one of them was truly hilarious. The author, however, doesn't have enough motivation to flesh out the scene.」
