TAYLOR'S POV
As I settled into the dental chair, the familiar sight of instruments and bright lights filled me with dread. Jake adjusted the chair, flashing me a reassuring smile.
"You'll be fine. Just relax." He said encouragingly
"Easier said than done," I muttered, feeling a lump form in my throat.
I could see the dental mirror glinting in the light, and all I could think about was the sound of the drill.
"Just open wide for me," he said gently, positioning the light.
I did as instructed, trying to suppress my anxiety.
"So, what's going on in that mind of yours?" he asked, peering inside my mouth. "Are you thinking about all the patients you're going to treat today?"
"Sure, let's go with that," I replied, my voice muffled.
I could feel my heart pounding in my chest, and I closed my eyes, focusing on his voice.
"Deep breaths, Taylor," he said, as he probed around my mouth. "I know this can be scary, but you're in good hands. I promise I won't hurt you."
I chuckled nervously. "You know, it's ironic. I'm a dentist, but I can't stand being in the chair."
Jake paused, looking at me with concern. "You're scared?"
I hesitated. "Well, I guess I just have a bit of a fear. It's embarrassing."
"Not at all! Everyone has their fears," he said, his tone gentle. "You're not alone."
"I feel silly for being scared of my own profession," I admitted, my voice wavering.
He smiled warmly. "It's not silly. It makes you human. I appreciate your honesty."
As he continued the examination, I felt a mix of fear and comfort. He was kind and patient, the way I hoped to be with my own patients.
