Operating Room
Ethan Stone felt his eyes fluttering closed as he lay on the surgical table. In his head he went to another place entirely. In his head he was once again young and naive enough to believe that he could have anything he wanted and that he could change the world for the better. One case at a time. Yet still uncertain enough that he couldn't reach out and grab what he truly wanted more than anything.
He was once again back in the little hole in the wall lounge that had attracted all the law students in the Boston area for some reason. Great music. Decent food. Cheap inexpensive drinks. And , he was on the tiny dance floor with an equally youthful but still devastatingly handsome and cocky Richard Norland in his arms. As the music played on they laughed and stared wistfully into each other eyes while they danced the night away.
" I love you , " Ethan said softly.
" I love you too , " the man in his protective arms murmured back. Yet it was not Richard anymore. No. To his amazement he saw that he was now dancing with Zipp Dennis whose bashful brown eyes twinkled back at him as his lips smiled lovingly.
Richard Norland had before his eyes morphed into Zipp. And , oddly enough Ethan Stone did not really care all that much.
He just smiled and enjoyed the dance with Zipp.

Operating room
Zennis " Zipp " Dennis closed his eyes and drifted away as the anesthesia took hold of his body and his mind. When he reopened them he was not in the operating room ready to receive the kidney of his best friend and the only man he had ever truly loved in his life. He was sitting cross legged in a beautiful garden filled with colorful fragrant flowers. He was filled with so much peace and tranquility that it seemed hard to comprehend it as being real. He leaned back and just drank in the beauty , the peace , the serenity. He never wanted to leave this place.
Then he heard it. He heard her. His daughter's voice calling his name so sweetly.
" Daddy ! Daddy ! I've been waiting for you ! I love you , Daddy ! "
He turned around and saw her standing before him. Diamond , with her long thick blonde curls and big blue eyes , in a the little pink dress they had buried her in , smiling at him the way she always had.
" Daddy ! Don't leave me ! I need you. "

" Doctor , we're losing him. "

Ethan kept dancing with Zipp in his arms and wished the music would never stop.

Zipp hugged his young daughter in his loving arms once more and never wanted to let go again. He wanted just one more chance to get the whole father thing right.
" I love you , darling girl. "
" Don't leave me , Daddy. "
Then from so far away he could hear music playing and what sounded like Ethan calling his name.
" Zipp ! "
" Daddy. "
" ZIPP ! "
" Daddy , don't leave me. "'
" ZIPP ! DON'T LEAVE ME ! I NEED YOU ! "

Ethan playfully dipped Zipp and Zipp laughed happily.

Zipp pulled away from his daughter who was beginning to fade slightly before his eyes.
" I love you , Diamond. My precious darling girl. But I need to go back home. "
" No ! Daddy ! Stay here. Stay with me , " Diamond begged him even as she kept getting dimmer and dimmer before him.
" I can't. I wish I could. But you'll always be apart of me. "

" He's back , doc. "
" Yes. Now let's get this kidney in him before something else goes wrong. "
